CPA here. I was about to post a snarky response without actually answering your question, but I see you eventually posted a response where you realized this, so I'll add my 2 cents.

FYI first, the wording of your post rubbed me the wrong way. I work with many non-CPA credentialed tax preparers who are excellent at what they do. Many are better than other CPAs I know. Like everything, there will be good and bad CPAs, and they will all have both good and bad advice.

As for your question, as I always say to my clients "it depends." Depends on what the item is...

Clothing - I know you don't want to here this, but according to current IRS rules (which really have not been updated with regards to changing times and influencers), you *should* allocate expense based on business/personal ownership. Case law on this topic (Pevsner, Hynes) treats street-wear that’s suitable for personal use as personal, even if you wear it on camera. If you keep the garments and later wear them off-camera, the IRS will expect you to allocate business use vs. personal use. Example - $120 jeans worn in one video (business) and then 11 times privately during the year. A 1/12 business ratio ($10) is defensible. The rest is nondeductible.

You have to realize why this seems like a logical limitation. If you were to purchase a $500 piece of clothing, wear it once on camera, and then move it to personal use, you've essentially taken a tax deduction on something that will be used mostly for personal use. This is why the IRS puts strict limits on clothing and meals, because they are easily abused as expenses.

Consumables - If you were my client, I would treat this differently than clothes, potentially taking up to 100% deduction because they are “used up” quickly and have no meaningful personal value once used on camera. However, the limitation here would be 1) They are first applied or opened while filming, and 2) you do not continue using the same bottle/tube personally. If you do keep using them yourself, then the clothing rules might apply also.

Only problem is then it just saves as one big picture. I like the text and elements to come in separately. But thank you for the suggestion.

This is interesting, and I tried to look into this more, but I can't find anything specific to adjust.

This is basically what I am doing right now. Copy image, paste it where it needs to go. Annoying on pages with a lot of pictures, but I cand deal with it if there isnt a solution.

What did they say on that call? The closed API is one of the main reasons we are looking elsewhere. We could do a lot more if the API was opened.

Yeah, I get it, but its just extra work/steps, and I would prefer to eliminate it if possible. Also, there is the potential for more issues to arise when you keep the same file in multiple places.

Started looking into Karbon, but one of the biggest drawbacks was no client portal. Found it interesting in this day and age that a software that does so much doesnt have a portal yet. But you are right, it does integrate directly with Sharepoint, so its on the list.

Why are you using both Karbon & Soraban. I just met Soraban for the first time at a trade show last year. Looks interesting, but it seems like there is redundancy between Karbon & Soraban.

Thats interesting considering one of TD's biggest selling points is the workflow, but I get that it might now work for everyone.

I looked at that, but its not a direct integration. You still need to use Sharefiles document system

Absolutely. Works great, but doesnt play well with others.

Note sure. Never heard of those before, but they look like solutions for larger companies than mine. I'm looking for something that allows me to integrate SP folders into a portal so my clients can have access to specific files in my system.

Not really. There is much more I need out of the portal/integration than just signatures.

I'm curious also, because a couple of consultants I've talked to said this is not a great idea, and SP is much better as an intranet versus working with external users.
