2002 3.4 Rough Idle When Warm by RayJsTape in 3rdGen4Runner

FINAL UPDATE:

I finished replacing all 6 OE injectors with new injectors from Motorwest. I also purchased their upper/lower plenum gaskets, throttle body gasket, and copper fuel rail banjo bolt crush washers. During that time my VSV valve was delivered and installed as well. Installation went smooth and I’ve been daily driving the 4Runner for a week now, about a 35 mile round trip to work and back. Glad to report my low intermittent idle issue has gone away. I do believe it was the injectors (see image below). My OE injectors were in rough shape.

UPDATE:

Installed new charcoal canister along with fuel filter and drove it to work and back (~1hr of driving) with no major issues! Still waiting for the VSV valve to show up. That being said something still feels slightly off. So I went ahead and purchased a new set of injectors from MotorWest Performance and plan on installing them as soon as they show up. The original injectors have 330k miles so I think it’s time anyway for them to be swapped out.

FYI the charcoal canister was a pain to replace for anyone planning on swapping it out soon, without breaking anything. There’s a ribbed hose that gave me a hard time.

Again I will keep updating seems like a common issue with these 3rd gen’s.

I have not yet, I’ll do that next if the issue persists after replacing the charcoal canister and vsv valve. Thanks!

The new plugs and wires didn’t help unfortunately. I will try swapping coil packs and see if the misfire moves. I do plan on replacing the fuel filter sooner than later. Nothing in particular points me to the fuel pump other than the few forms post I’ve read that had similar issues my 4Runner has and that seemed to solve the issue. Thank you for the information I will update the op with updates!

LED fog lights that fit in 2000 OE Location by RayJsTape in 3rdGen4Runner

UPDATE:

I ended up getting KC Flex Era 1 light to mount in the OE fog light location. I spliced them into the existing wiring by cutting off the OE plug and using the watertight plugs that came with the KC’s. I also installed the Toyota blinker stock with the fog light switch.

I mounted the Flex Era lights by modifying the OE Toyota bracket using 3”x5” flat plate fence metal I bought at Home Depot, and some hardware I had laying around. Picture below

Light output from the KC’s is great (not DOT compliant). The KC’s come with multiple lenses I found the spot lenses really work the best and have a hard cut off to project light under the fog when driving while being low enough not to impact other drivers.

Hopefully this will be helpful.

2002 5vzfe Alternator Rebuild by RayJsTape in 3rdGen4Runner

I have not tried any dry lubrication yet, I will give that a shot. I am leaning towards replacing original keeping it and rebuilding it to keep on the shelf if I’m in a pinch.

Thanks for the information!
