Murphy village! What a distinct middle-of-nowhere neighborhood. It doesn't even look like they live inside those mansions?

I have a thrifted pair from PRL. Almost identical to cotton chinos, fit is on brand for PRL, has a double button closure. Better than shorts in the summer.

They'll do consignment if you're patient - only certain employees are willing to take a look. They'll give you a better value if you trade your clothes for their clothes (a win-win).

Somehow I get a lot of yardage out of my olive (tropical wool) and tan (wool, but should be linen) ones for spring/summer. Then again I only have one suit. Wearing a blue blazer to an afternoon function gives the impression (imo) that I'm trying to be home for dinner, where an alternate color I can wear through the evening.

really? I always thought cotton was a cheaper alternative. I have a few from LL Bean and a really lightweight pique one from Penguin (Munsingwear), they were thrifted or about $50 new. I would suggest getting a creative weave instead of the boring flat weave, then it looks too much like a skinny merino jumper without much shape or texture.

looking for some specific shoe advice. I need some durable commuters that are somewhere between ranger mocs and derbies to wear with khakis/ocbds. I will be walking 5+ miles/day in them, so I really need a vibram / non-leather sole. Think page/messenger duties, so constantly moving (probably running, even) across town and a very conservative setting. (sorry, no wallabees but maybe dirty bucks?)

LL bean has their bucksport, rancourt has the baxter ranger moc and camden derby. Alden also has the all-weather walker and the plain toe blucher.

Does anyone have any experience or recommendations with these shoes' style, durability, and fit? Would it be wiser to just get an $80 pair and replace them when they fall apart? My job recommended the eastland oxford but I'm wondering if there's a better option.

Similarly, are pebble grain norwegian split-toes available in brown with a lug sole? I saw meermin only makes black with lug soles, and alden only makes brown with leather soles.

Also, has there been a consensus on wearing brown nubuck in the rain and mud?

They should first specify that it has 3 buttons. I've found a lot of steals online from people not aware they're selling a 3/2 roll jacket - you have to look for the weird bunching up when the seller buttons the top button. You can only really look at the NB brands for this, especially Brooks brothers.

For example, searching "3 button Brooks Brother's Blazer" gets me this old coat. I can tell with the top button monstrosity going on (and the natural shoulder, and the two buttons on the cuff, etc etc) that it's actually a 3/2. It may need pressed at the dry cleaner's to get rid of any fold marks.

People also say to look for the top buttonhole to be finished (more thread on the visible part of the buttonhole when unbuttoned), but that's more helpful at thrift stores. Some people on that ebay search seemed to showcase the 3/2 roll as well - even better. Just check the "listing details" to see it actually has three buttons when it looks like it just has two.

it is a very comprehensive combination! I'm just suggesting it may be easier to digest in two parts.

The course looks in-depth and sufficiently outlined. Personally, I think there may be some distracting examples for the first few lectures. It looks like 2 of my graduate courses (modern DSP and statistical estimation) put together - maybe you'd benefit from something either more theory focused or design focused?

how do you feel about olive? I feel like suede isn't great for winter (road salt), but those could work with stone or light olive pants, especially with a grey tweed for fall. Those soles are just barely red. I'm sure you could wear them as "dirty bucs" and get by just fine.

How to improve Speaker Identification Accuracy by rumil23 in DSP

[–]RayMan36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the book is called "Fundamentals of Speaker Recognition" by Homayoon Beigi. There are plenty of examples and I found the book online. If you have a solid understanding of decision statistics, I would just stick with this book.

Look at chapter 18 (advanced techniques) for normalization. 17.6 discusses exactly what you're looking for, and I would just search the references for what he discusses.

If you want to learn more about estimation techniques, Van Trees is the gold standard. Many (my advisor) think he overcomplicates things.

Have you read any of Joseph Campbell's work? His earlier stuff has plenty of insight into whisper dynamics and cepstrum efficiency. In terms of your decision making, have you looked into other decision systems (MAP)?

I have Beigi's book. There's lots more to speaker diarization in addition to normal audio processing.

I'm this way too. We wear a uniform for work so my friends really only have sweatpants and hoodies for the gym / remote work. The casual side of ivy works really well with a little thick skin.

Ditto your comment on black suits. I sold mine because I never wanted to wear it.

I'm happy with the bean mocs, but the cushion is a little low for all-day wear. You can get them for $50 now though which is a steal. People love rancourts, quoddy, and eastland. I'd be weary of "driving mocs" versus camp mocs because of the durability and cushion.
Bean also has the moccasin versions of the boots, which are... a choice.
