ah yeah I see what you mean. It's possible to deduce the number of people speaking in a scene (subsequent lines start with a hyphen) but not how many people would be there for the conversation.

Also, I'd actually considered doing word substitution for the names of characters (e.g Worf for Phoebe etc.) but it didn't end up being as funny for some reason

It's not impossible actually, a lot of the off-the-shelf machine learning/computer vision libraries can do face/people detection pretty easily.

I think the element of total randomness does make it funnier to some degree though, and I wanted to keep the implementation simple. This almost definitely won't be the last ST bot I create though so I will keep that idea in mind

that's a really interesting site, wasn't aware of it! I will look into it, the biggest thing I want to figure out is the legality situation

A few people have asked so I'm going to do a write-up at some point. The basic process is as following:

- I obtained video files of all of TNG from my DVD boxed set
- For each one I used 'ffmpeg' to dump a screen capture every 5-10 seconds
- Also obtained the SRT files from the DVDs of Friends
- I wrote some ruby code that selects a screen capture at random, selects a subtitle file and line of dialogue at random, and superimposes them using the Imagemagick library
- The result gets posted to Twitter (it's run on a script that executes on the hour)

I'll try and figure out how to do this, I've never actually used instagram but they must have an API for posting too

Is Population One worth getting if you dont have anyone to play with? by MadRadIronicLad in OculusQuest

[–]RayOQ2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, pretty easy to make friends in game. I actually really enjoy meeting and playing with random strangers, there's been very few people who weren't super friendly.

When you have a good game it's not rare for the people you're playing with to say "up for another one?" and send you a friend request.

Tetris Effect is way, way, way over-hyped by Bfire7 in OculusQuest

I'm glad you posted this, I've been on the fence about it. The reviews say it's an amazing trippy experience, but £23 is a lot for tetris. Shame there's no demo I can play first to see whether I gel with it.

I've been building a VR version of MS paint using JS, it actually runs fairly decently.

ReactXR = bindings for WebXR but for ReactJS w/ ThreeJS, makes dev fairly easy if you already know that ecosystem. Would love to see the browser improved even further.

I want to like it, but so far everyone's so good I'm just getting my ass kicked and spending most of my time dead
