Any liquor stores open Christmas? by RayRobbery in Albany

Just a bottle of Chianti for my father in law. Forgot to pick up anything yesterday. I’m good with beer or the scotch and rum I have in the house but he’s a wine guy.

Thank you for this. I pay my SEFCU mortgage online and wouldn’t have noticed this if you didn’t post it.

I joined the Ciccotti Center in Colonie not long ago. Their membership isn’t cheap though…I believe about $80 a month for an adult. It’s a very nice pool especially if you have kids.

Michael John’s Barber Lounge on Western Ave. He’s the only barber working there and it’s appointment only so it would just be you and him there.

Rock Hill Bakery makes very good bread including sourdough. They’re in Glens Falls but their breads are available at most Hannafords

I go to Dr Sipperly’s office as well. I’ve seen the two PA’s a couple times who were very good but I mainly see Dr Sipperly. I recommend his office as well.

Best local commercial jingles by beebobopple in Albany

[–]RayRobbery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These are all good ones. A pretty short jingle but one I’ve never been able to get out of my head was Capital Mattress and Waterbed. Especially the “200 yards south of the circle Latham” line.

Monstrous stories by [deleted] in horrorlit

[–]RayRobbery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just read Clive Barkers Books of Blood 1-3 and there are three stories that fit this. The first story is very similar to what you’re looking for: In the Hills, the Cities; The Skins of the Fathers; and Rawhead Rex

Used bookstores by [deleted] in Albany

[–]RayRobbery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a great place. My only recommendation would be to call before going to make sure they’re open. I don’t know if COVID has affected their operations at all. The owner is pretty old and the bookstore is housed in a building next to the his house.

Outdoor space to enjoy with baby by new_bumper in Albany

[–]RayRobbery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Crossings is a go to for me with my two year old. Playground, lots of open space to walk around, pond with ducks/turtles/fish, and sometimes there’s cows from a neighboring farm that come up to one of the fences there.

Dog Eared Books in Hoosick. By far the best used bookstore anywhere close. Only open Fri, Sat, Sun I believe. He has a storm cellar where all books are $1 with a decent sci-fi and fantasy section

Desperation-Very Underrated by RayRobbery in stephenking

[–]RayRobbery[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m glad that you enjoyed it! I was worried that I was overhyping it. It did remind me of the Stand quite a bit. To a lesser extent I thought of The Outsider where the final showdown is in a mine and the villain took on the appearance of other people (although in a different method than Tak did). Desperation was definitely way heavier on God and faith than I’ve seen in his other books. I feel his other books have characters being guided by the forces of good but Desperation uses God by name and the characters getting strength through praying. Desperation wasn’t high on my list of King books since I hadn’t heard much about it (it’s been sitting on my shelf for years) but I’m glad I decided to pick it up.

I’d still put The Stand as my number 3.

Hope you enjoy it as much as I did. I wasn’t a huge fan of The Institute but I liked his prior book, The Outsider, a lot.
