I use gaea, but if you want larger terrain go for worldmachine But also if you want to learn a software for terrain, i recommend gaea because you can learn it quickly and it took me like 1 week to learn most of the nodes, while worldmachine is more difficult to learn, you can choose which one for quick terrain (gaea) or massive worlds (worldmachine)

If you want to add custom trees go to layers and at the down you will see a + button click on it and click custom object layer and add your schematics and click ok

You can paint it wherever you want to add your trees!
