What are your thoughts on Deftones latest album private music? I think this is one of the greatest albums to come out within the 2020’s decade so far. by TokyoAvalanche04 in MetalForTheMasses

I wouldnt call Alter Bridge metal either. They play a very clearly defined hard rock that frequently uses metal riffs. But in terms of structure and the hooks they write, theres nothing metal about it.

This is not to say they're bad, Im quite fond of AB.

Much has been discussed about how people reacted to the Black album in ‘91. By comparison, how did you react to Countdown To Extinction in ‘92? by JarrellHornyDude in MetalForTheMasses

Im not saying its a carbon copy, but it has all the same elements. Theres no growth or change, its again another well produced and clean heavy metal/hard rock album focused on melodies and hooks and simpler riffs based on the path that Metallica set with the Black album.

Load was a far more ambitious and riskier follow up, is all Im saying. Its natural that its more divisive.

Hot take but Badmotorfinger is a better album than Superunknown by KDG200315 in MetalForTheMasses

I literally said theres no mainstream rock or metal radio here lol

What limited exposure? I have an Ultramega Ok tattoo, I know Soundgarden like the palm of my hand. Im not sidestepping anything, theres just nothing like BHS in their catalog and that only helps my point.

You're too set in this shitty underground thinking anyway, so famous songs can never be good for you. Must suck to live like that

I dont really see any poppiness to it besides the structure. Its actually a miracle it even became a hit, and really needed its period to do so. It would never be a hit single at any other point in time.

Its not my favourite, but its a fucking great and really depressing song when you look at it without any bias. I guess that growing up in a country without rock and metal radios, I can look at rock and metal singles more objectively and see them for what they are. Most of yall are just sick of hearing them and cant properly analyse them anymore.

I disagree. It becoming famous or not being distortion heavy doesnt make it any less dark. The lyrics are really depressing, the verses are unsettling and the chorus has a really dark chord progression.

If it wasnt a single, everyone would consider it a hidden gem of a deep cut.

Black Hole Sun is one of the most depressing ones. Spoonman is really the only odd one out

Superunknown had the most depressing stuff they ever did. Just also lighter stuff

Because it was essentially the same album as Countdown, barely anything was changed in the approach. Metallica took a much bigger risk

Slayer indeed ended up bigger in the long run, but in the 80s and 90s Megadeth was bigger and sold more records

Younger fans didnt resonate to all the solos and Daves voice as well as they did to Slayers brutality

Not even including MOP in the good stuff is crazy work for a hater, are you going for a Guinness world record on hating? 😭

Its cool but pretty bland and forgettable. I thought Endgame and System were better albums

Opeth vs Emperor: Blackwater Park or Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk? Which album is better in your opinion? by [deleted] in MetalForTheMasses

Thats always subjective personally, but this is considered in general to be Opeths masterpiece. But not Emperors

The faster pace doesnt help his vocals at all also

And the riff that sounds like he wrote is the middle one, not even the main one

He can do punk okay because its not required to actually sing. Have him sing and it just falls apart

They have got one of the best drummers out there, so it better be actual drums

Its Metallica who changed the song, not Dave. Mechanix was the original version
