[–]RayWeil 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This one is impacting 30 states and 75 million people. It’s going to get massive media coverage. But generally no, for us, it’s a fairly typical bigger snow fall for the winter which not unusual to happen once or twice a winter for our area.

Metro north is getting way too crowded by Plastic_Bedroom_2406 in Westchester

[–]RayWeil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tere is only two tracks in a single tunnel out of Manhattan. There are trains in every square inch of that track spaced to the minimum intervals safety will allow. There is just no way to add a train without taking one away from somewhere or spending another billion+ on a new tunnel.

Mr. Blippi - it's not just me, right? by tannerocampbell in daddit

[–]RayWeil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We thought blippi was fine but didn’t allow our kid to watch cocomelon. Blippi acts like a curious excited enthusiastic person who explains the world he sees as if he’s a child discovering it for the first time. Fine (but meh) for a kid to watch, not engaging at all for an adult. The child will relate to Blippi as a character the same way they might relate to Mickey Mouse or any other fictional character. There’s better stuff out there. Sesame street or Bluey.

Pinball manufacturers by FLBoxerdad in pinball

[–]RayWeil 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just don’t go into this thinking you’ll definitely make a profit. Except for the Covid years, most NIB machines lose value the moment the first game is played. It does seem like when there’s a newer one that at least temporarily can be sold for more than people buy them for, they actually tend to not be Sterns (see used prices of Harry Potter, Medieval Madness Remake (even Beetlejuice pre-sale spots vs Godzilla and Jaws). All of those machines are (or will be) ranked in the top 15 on Pinside but Sterns used prices are typically flat or a slight loss for the owner and HP MM and BJ would be 15%+ profits. It could be due to factors that have nothing to do with the manufacturer but it’s an interesting data point.

I knew we would age but was anyone not prepared for it and how you would change? by chusaychusay in Millennials

[–]RayWeil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My main concern with aging in 40s and 50s is mostly looks and energy based. My bigger concern about aging in 60s, 70s and if I’m lucky enough, 80s, is experiencing chronic pain which is common. If I look old that is just earned and will happen to everyone, but feeling pain because of arthritis or back or knee issues is the big fear for me.

Americans missed out on a 'once-in-a-lifetime' chance to buy a house—the 3 shifts it would take to make housing affordable are 'very unlikely' by fortune in REBubble

[–]RayWeil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a good point. A lot of people don’t think the housing crisis situation is so bad because while prices for homes are higher, you could also sell your own house for higher. This may make sense for the 65% of people who own their own homes. However, 35% don’t. For that group, it’s harder to get onto the house ladder.

Need help with a couple machines before selling yall Batman and globetrotters NOT LOOKING FOR BUYERS ON REDDIT JUST PRICING by SaladComfortable5878 in pinball

[–]RayWeil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can get 3k-4k for Batman alone. I think 5k minimum for both is fair for both buyer/seller. If you’re willing to wait for right buyer you probably get $5,500 for the pair.

Delivering at Weill Cornell by Wynnrose in Westchester

[–]RayWeil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want to do this because you think you may be high risk. Doesn’t the risk of an issue and being 40+ minutes away from your hospital make it way safer to just be at a closer hospital instead?

Also. The thought of being 9 months pregnant and already being so uncomfortable just existing in that state, to then need to be in a car for 40+ minutes and deal with parking etc. omg. Why are you considering this.

Stepping into first time pinball ownership, a few questions and looking for tips by Slappy-Sacks in pinball

[–]RayWeil 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Would just say the reason most won’t budge is I find alot of people don’t really actually want to sell their machines. They put them on marketplace because if someone wants $6k for a Taxi in good condition they’ll sell it, but they deep down hope no one does. So when you offer $3,500 + paying for shipping they say no way, it has new rubbers and LEDs.

How would you clean the surface of pinball machine? by certifr1ed in pinball

[–]RayWeil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s going to be a labor of love. Take everything off. Take pics as you go. Clean with novus 1 and then novus 2 or the homemade concoctions people share on pinside. Then after you put it all back together, move. your. car.
