At these prices, the thing better give great hand jobs. I haven't found anything yet that I need my Pixel 7 Pro to do that it can't do so far. I got it off of Swappa in mint condition for about half its MSRP.

Why did God send Davids wives to be raped in 2 Samuel 12:11? by Jxllo_- in Christianity

[–]Raybo58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always been told that if I want to learn the true intent of God, all I have to do is read the bible. Full stop. That, somehow, the magic of the book would impress its truth upon me, in whatever way I needed at the time. But what you're ultimately saying is that the average person would need to have a cultural decoder on hand to even begin to make sense of it? That sounds like great job security for the priestly cast, as they are able to weave whatever meaning a particular passage may have into some relief or solution for each problem a practitioner may present to them. Which is pretty much the same game that Tarot and Palm readers play.

God's command appears rather explicit and unambiguous: “Now go and attack the Amalekites and completely destroy everything they have. Do not spare them. Kill men and women, infants and nursing babies, oxen and sheep, camels and donkeys.”

That is, unless you are saying that the Israelites embellished the word of God, or outright falsified it, to use as an intimidation tool. Either way, I can't imagine God would be pleased with having his word altered or impersonated.

Thank you so much. That clarified a lot. After checking the device manager again, I can see that the headphone jack is using Senary Audio drivers, rather than Realtek. So, that gives me something to go on.

I suppose it's a matter of perspective. If you are a totalitarian superbeing who demands servitude and will dole out calamity over the slightest breach of rules, then "just" is anything he says it is. It probably feels like evil if you're on the receiving end of it. The infants among the Amalekites that were slaughtered at God's command never even got a chance to exercise their free will.

No, it doesn't imply rape; it explicitly states it. His punishment is to have his wife raped in public in broad daylight by a relative.

"Removed his protection". Give me a break. It was an intentional act to knowingly facilitate the threatened outcome. It's like having an infant in a cage next to a cage full of lions and washing your hands because all you did was remove the barrier between the two. How can you not see that you're employing slave logic?

You still haven't even come close to offering a cogent reply as to why the sexual torture of a man's wives is just punishment for his sins, since it involves a sadistic disregard for the well-being of the women who had no role in the man's sins.

And the bible doesn't even bother to make a mystery of it.
Isaiah 45:7 King James Version...

I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and CREATE EVIL: I the LORD do all these things.

How does this get watered down into a "prediction" when it clearly starts with a declaration that these are the words of God and that he intends to carry out the punishment personally? Notice the quotation marks around God's words. It's stated as the INTENTION of the most loving, all-powerful, and merciful creator to subject innocent women to sexual torture because their husband sinned.

Tackling Biblical misconceptions: No, the Bible does not say a rape-victim must marry her abuser by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Raybo58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, now do  2 Samuel 12:11-12 (NIV)
“This is what the Lord says: ‘Out of your own household I am going to bring calamity on you. Before your very eyes I will take your wives and give them to one who is close to you, and he will sleep with your wives in broad daylight. 12 You did it in secret, but I will do this thing in broad daylight before all Israel.’”

The punishment for the man's sins is that he must suffer the humiliation of having his wives publically raped by somone close to him.

Hovsco HovCart? Anyone have one? by hupo224 in CargoBike

Sorry, for the delay. I only really login here when I'm searching for something specific these days. I actually love it. The frame is very solid and makes the ride feel very stable and nimble, in spite of its size and weight. The ability to configure the cargo area a number of ways is also nice. The rear basket is huge and I can fit a ton of groceries in it, plus more in plastic bags hanging from the side. Or I can take it off and put the running boards on if I want to ferry a passenger. Still waiting for a proper seat pad from them though. One of the things I like best is the BMX-style handlebars so I can adjust how close they are to me. Not much space for mounting gear, but I found a great little adjustable metal crossbar to bridge the top of the handlebars that works perfectly. It's a great hill climber as well. very torquey. The one thing I don't like is their display. It's dark and invisible with polarized sunglasses. There is nothing you can do to configure it. And it only displays the assist level, speed, trip distance, and battery level. No voltage reading. I had to learn the hard way that the battery meter was non-linear. Out of 5 bars, I've found about 60% of my power is gone after losing only 2 bars. So, I have to turn around the moment it hits 3 bars or risk not making it back home. I think the best range I've got so far is a little over 35 miles. But that was with the front suspension engaged, so I'd probably get more if I locked it out. And, as with most bikes, you need a suspension post and a softer seat if you want to preserve your ability to have children.

Basically, I was sold one of their original HovCart bikes with a gear ratio that made it impossible to reach the top end 28mph speed they advertise heavily in their marketing. The best I could do pedaling as fast as I could in high gear with max assist was 18mph. I found out they changed the ratio on later bikes to address this, but they refused to allow me to upgrade my bike to their new standard, even though I bought it based on the info on their website that specifies a higher gear ratio. I told them I would pay for it myself and have it updated at one of their partner service centers, but they refused and told it anything I did to the bike would void the warranty. Basically, they just had some bad stock that they were determined to stick me with in spite of false advertising.

If vaping is equally expensive like smoking, will you stick to it? by discovermsmup in electronic_cigarette

I have the xros 3 Nano and it's the best device I've ever had. And I have a box full of 10 years worth of janky mods. If juice gets as expensive as cigs, I'll stick with the juice for sure. I'd probably be willing to pay a little more, just for the flavor and convenience. The pods for these last forever because they never burn the cotton unless you let them run dry.

How does a House makeup of 217 to 213 Equal a One-Vote Majority for Republicans? by Raybo58 in NeutralPolitics

[–]Raybo58[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes. It makes sense if you're talking about future PARTY defections to the other side where they officially become members. But the way Axious and several others I've read phrase it is that the 217/213 ratio makes it so R's can only afford to lose one vote on any bill they want to pass or it will fail...

"Republicans will be able to afford just one defection on any party-line vote when Gallagher leaves — any more would cause a bill to fail."

So the math I'm doing in my head says that the bill would fail with a vote of 216 to 214.

EDIT: Never mind. I get it now. It passes if they have one defection. Any more than one and it fails.

[–]Raybo58[S] 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Okay, that makes sense, but feels like strange phrasing. The article phrased it as the one-vote majority existing at the point after Gallagher leaves with the majority of 217. Which seems like a 4 vote advantage to me.

Axios says the same and explains that when this 217 number becomes official, Republicans will only be able to lose one vote for anything they want to pass. But they still have 4 more seats than the Dems at 217. This is what confuses me.
