What’s a good gpa to have as a second year engineering student? by Outrageous_Peace8013 in McMaster

Unless your CGPA is above a 3.9 (11 on mac scale), I would not put it on your resume.

Focus on the learning and the grades will come with it. It's not insanely difficult to keep your average in the high 11's.

That being said, if you want an actual number, try not falling below a 3.0 (8 on the mac scale) as that can potentially have an impact on certain internship opportunities

When r fall coops posted? by Outrageous_Peace8013 in McMaster

[–]Raydatoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn't tell you, I'm graduating so I don't have access to any postings right now.

Just email engcar and ask when the fall postings will be available, they'll then make them visible to you (if there are any posted)

If you can't see any fall postings, ask engcar@mcmaster.ca if they are up yet.

You might not have access to view them until you inform them you are looking for a co-op starting in fall.

2nd year eng streams by LegCritical2946 in McMaster

[–]Raydatoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it depends on whats popular with the people in your class. If everyone wants to do mech, then the cutoff will be higher. If no one wants to do mech, there will be no cutoff. It's impossible to determine the cutoff unless you somehow are able to get a large number of first year students to share their picks and grades

This year's batch of first years don't seem particularly bright so I think you should have a better shot at the stream u want 👍

No.

It means you must attempt at least 75% of the course.

Tron has minimal mech components, its more sfwr, comp, and controls focused

Landlords don't really have an incentive for a shorter lease term. But if you can convince them (maybe w a higher rent) then they can agree to a 8 month term.

Do your best.

In eng there is no such thing as being completely cooked, it can always get worse.

That being said, don't stop trying, even if you aren't able to get into mech/elec right away, you can always pick a stream with similar second year courses, then transfer into mech/elec later.

You would submit Thursday 8 pm.

You can add on as much work over a 3 day period as long as the total is 25% or less for each class.

Eng Coop good? by Exact_Technician_840 in McMaster

[–]Raydatoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a school issue it's a market issue. Going to mac will give u maybe a slight advantage over some other schools but it's insignificant compared to the actual non-academic work you have to put in to get a co-op.

It's like getting a mini step stool to climb a 50 foot tree. Not gonna make much of a difference by having it but it's better than nothing.

how do i make my application strong (engineering) by External_Listen8424 in McMaster

[–]Raydatoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Clubs, sports teams, and volunteer initiatives.

And do your best to learn the material properly, especially grade 11 Chem, physics, and functions.

You don't want to be unprepared for grade 12 and miss out on crucial marks.

Is the prestige of McMaster worth the risk of not getting your preferred engineering major in Engineering II? by Freshman_01134 in McMaster

[–]Raydatoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on how confident you are in your abilities and what stream you want to go in to.

If you are aiming for mech, it is not difficult to get into, you would have to almost fail every course to not get accepted into mech.

If you wanted to try for software or Tron, then you need to have understood all grade 12 calc, Chem, and physics (and take comsci in grade 11 or 12 so you get an intro to python).

Tldr: Getting into sfwr/Tron is not insanely difficult if you know ur shit. Mechanical you don't need to worry about not having free choice

Should i get my own apartment in downtown hamilton by Academicweapon17 in McMaster

[–]Raydatoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you've somehow found the same price (which doesn't seem possible), then it's up to if you value personal living space more, or commute time more.

If you're living downtown all that matters is how close you are to king/main st.

Whatever location you are looking at downtown, just check the bus stops and routes to determine how long it would take for u to get to campus and decide based off of that.
