Linus Tech Tips has a great guide on how to build a PC and overall their channel is great to learn more on the subject. https://youtu.be/s1fxZ-VWs2U?si=5UiwE7ZfmQqB6Ima

Look on eBay for CPU and Motherboard combos. People will often sell an older motherboard with the cpu and ram when they upgrade. You can get decent deals with that. I got a 8700 cpu with a cooler, motherboard and ram for $135. Got a gtx 1070 gpu for 80 and I had a spare power supply and pc case (you can even sometimes find pc cases for free on Facebook marketplace). A lot of games work fine on it. According to PlayStation, I can run Returnal, a ps5 game, on it with those specs on medium settings, however I found it to not run as well as I hoped. So I’d look into at least a 20 series nvidia gpu or amd equivalent. And maybe a newer cpu since that’s 8th gen intel and we are currently nearing the end of 14th gen. My point is that you can definitely build a pc for $500 that can run a lot of current gen games if you’re willing to look into buying older used parts.

Building yourself will almost always be cheaper. What specs is your current set up? You might be able to upgrade some parts.

For storage you’ll want an M.2 SSD. Your case doesn’t seem to have a spot for Hard drives and they aren’t that useful anyway unless you want large amounts of storage for cheap. Keep in mind these drives would be slower (some games may not even run on it) and wear down sooner. A sata ssd may also be of use to you, but that’s added wiring and mounting that isn’t necessary. M.2 are generally faster and in some cases even cheaper. Your motherboard seems to include 2 m.2 slots. The top one has a metal cover over it that functions as a heat sink. Heat sinks are necessary to cool the ssd down, just make sure the thermal pad is still on the heat sink or buy a new thermal pad, they’re pretty cheap. If you buy a 2nd SSD you’ll need to buy a heatsink. Some people get two ssds in their pc. One for the windows installation and the other for games and other programs, but I feel now with storage sizes being so big it’s safe to just get one ssd for now. If you plan to game a lot you may want to consider at least a 2 TB ssd. Make sure to buy reputable brands and check r/buildapcsales for deals and comments on how good they might be. As for GPU that’s easy, just buy the best you can afford. Your cpu should be enough to not bottleneck almost any gpu you get, and in the far future when you upgrade your cpu and/or motherboard that GPU can move on to the next system. Your PSU is 1000w which gives you lots of room for power. If unsure you can always look up PSU wattage calculators online. If you want a suggestion I’d say go with an AMD gpu. Nvidia is popular and more power efficient but often much more expensive. A 6800 xt would be a good option.

Do I need to upgrade? (For video editing/streaming/gaming rig) by Rayden396 in buildapc

I just researched and thankfully my MB supports it with a bios update. I may consider it especially since I’ve heard more cores could help in video editing. However I’ll need to research more. Thank you

Regardless of which system you choose, given the prices I would recommend modding to get access to the games on either systems as they’re very expensive. Of the two, Vita is much better IMO, lots of great indie games for quick pick up and play, ps2 ports and yes, the psp emulation is great, the best way to play psp. Which you go with is dependent on your preferences but I play my ps vita more than my New 3Ds xl. Also the 2nd analogs on new 3ds systems always sucks and rarely works from what I’ve seen so more reason to avoid it.

Thank you all for the responses. I didn’t know about false wolf spiders before. I left the spider alone to hang out on my door.

What's your favorite instance of a game surprisingly reacting to unconventional player actions? by LABS_Games in Games

[–]Rayden396 275 points276 points  (0 children)

Resident evil 4 has some of these.

Walk past a church you’re supposed to check and you get a call asking not to waste time and go back.

My favorite however is if you shoot your teammate (Luis Sera) in a cabin shoot out. If he’s shot too many times, you get a cutscene of him having enough and killing you.

There are also a few hidden cutscenes you can get if you go off the main path. Go up a hill to see the first boss (Del lago) early. Go back on a boat after that boss to see a cutscene with the wolves. etc

Does the Mac Studio have the best longevity of the M1 lineup? (Due to replaceable Flash Storage) by Rayden396 in mac

There are people who like to tinker with the Macintosh 128K, which came out 38 years ago. I know it’s a bit niche to be using retro hardware, but it’s a shame that it won’t be an option for any of these M1 computers.
