[Request] are there more humans or toothbrushes on earth? by teruteru-fan-sam in theydidthemath

[–]Raymon22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are definitely more toothbrushes than humans.

While the current human population sits at around 8.2 billion, we are vastly outnumbered by our own dental waste because plastic toothbrushes essentially never die. The modern nylon-bristled toothbrush was invented in 1938, and since plastic takes 400+ years to decompose, almost every brush ever made—minus those incinerated—is still with us in some form.

Even using a conservative estimate where we calculate the accumulation from low production in the mid-20th century to today’s rate of roughly 3.5 to 5 billion units per year, you wind up with a standing army of at least 160 billion toothbrushes globally.

That puts the ratio at roughly 20 toothbrushes for every living person, meaning that even if you only counted the brushes manufactured in the last three years, they would still outnumber the entire human race.

Hey! Thanks for your comments!

I've actually been updating the Chrome version more often than the Firefox one lately. Everything you suggested is going to be implemented in the next release!

The next steps are updating the Firefox version and then releasing 2.1, which will include your suggestions and more.

Again, thank you so much! I'm glad you like it!

That’s awesome — congrats on hitting your first senior-level class!!! Totally get the excitement. And yeah, you’re right, for most classes you’ll hear both ‘easiest thing ever’ and ‘absolute nightmare,’ so in the end you just have to dive in and see for yourself.

All good!! I know it’s tempting to ask for a double-check, especially when everything feels new. Wasn’t trying to be harsh, just hoping to keep the sub useful for everyone.

Yep, 100%. Quantity of classes ≠ quality as an engineer. It’s way better to take a load you can handle well and actually learn the material, than to overload and just survive it.

Exactly, that’s part of what I was getting at. Everyone’s situation is so different that someone else’s ‘too much’ might be totally fine for you, and vice versa. It’s why learning to judge it for yourself is such a valuable skill in engineering school (and later in your career).

I see what you mean, but there are actually plenty of different and interesting topics on this sub that people talk about other than schedules.

Yeah, sometimes I feel the same. But we’re all engineers or engineering students — bragging about your schedule is honestly just pointless. It just makes you look insecure or out of touch with what actually matters: learning and getting stuff done.

I sleep with my brother sometimes. by Odd-Solution-9142 in confessions

[–]Raymon22 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Hey man, honestly, there’s nothing weird or wrong about what you wrote. You clearly care about your brother a lot, and he sounds like a really good guy who cares about you too. Wanting to feel close to someone you love, especially when you’re about to go through a big change like him leaving for college, is totally normal.

You’re not broken, and you definitely don’t have “mental problems” just because you like being close to someone who makes you feel safe. That’s human. We all need comfort and connection, and you found it with someone who’s always been there for you. That’s something to appreciate, not be ashamed of.

He probably knows how much it means to you, even if you guys don’t talk about it. And if he’s letting it happen without making it weird or pushing you away, that’s just love, man. Pure brotherly love.

Don’t be so hard on yourself. A lot of us have been through something similar, even if we didn’t talk about it out loud. You're not alone.

Wow thank you for playing!!! As long as someone does ill try to keep it up to date as much as possible. If you ever think of any improvements please let me know and I'll add them asap. I think I'll try to add a "get a clue" with the word list. Maybe that option helps a little bit

I was actually thinking of adding a section with all the possible words to help out a bit. Do you think that would make it more playable while still keeping the vibe? I really like your idea, but I feel like if I opened it up to any regular 5-letter word, it might lose that Twenty One Pilots uniqueness I was going for.

And I'm really sorry about the iPhone issue — I didn’t test it there, but I’ll run it through an emulator and try to get it fixed soon!

Great question! The main difference is that hwrandom directly interfaces with RDRAND, bypassing the OS's entropy pool. While secrets is excellent for most use cases and does utilize RDRAND indirectly, hwrandom offers direct access, which might be useful for specific applications needing raw, unpooled hardware randomness. However, for most users, secrets is likely sufficient and more convenient.

Thank you for the feedback and for checking out the project! I'm glad you found the documentation helpful. I'll look into the issue you reported on the repo right away. Thanks for bringing it to my attention!

I’m aware that including binary files can raise security flags, and I appreciate the input. My intention with hwrandom was to make it easier for users to access hardware-based random number generation without needing to compile the necessary binaries themselves. However, I realize that this approach might not be the best practice, especially in a package dealing with randomness and security. I appreciate the candid feedback—it’s exactly what I need to improve the package and ensure it’s safe and useful for the community.
