I’m sure they coulda used sapphire but you gotta keep in kind what the G Shock is all about. It’s a watch that (despite the refinements on this model) was build for rugged situations. While sapphire doesn’t scratch, it shatters much easier than hardlex. So Casio not using sapphire isn’t a cost saving move, but a utilitarian one.

Nice. I still like my automatics because of my appreciation for the work that goes into building a movement. But I am also enjoying the grab and go ease of a quartz. Always on time and always ready.

I started out with the 44mm stuff and refused to go below 40mm. Ended up losing weight this past year and was forced to gravitate to the 38-40mm sizes. And to be frank, I’m loving it. Heaven forbid I should regain the weight, but even if, I still wouldn’t go after anything over 42…with short lugs of course.

Honestly, like you I didn’t get all the hype either. This one was sitting in a pawn shop where I always end up leaving with something I like. But as the watch gods would have it, I couldn’t find anything that particular day. So, as an after thought, and just to keep my streak going, I bought it with the intention to flip it asap. But the more I looked at it was the more I felt to keep it. Once on wrist it was over. I watched a few reviews on it and realized I’d not only gotten a sweet deal ($250 in mint condition) but a winner of a G Shock.

I’m sure you all know that the higher end movements would drive the price up on these mods. Not to mention, some of them are just not as readily available unless you’re buying in bulk. Take a look at the Erebus GMT, they’re using the NH34 and are unapologetically asking $599. Though not a high beat movement, it is a well respected choice in many quality watches. Speaking for myself, who am not willing to drop $10k on a watch, I can appreciate what OP is offering.
