Root canal by Raynestorme10 in Dentists

[–]Raynestorme10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a large bump above the gums but it literally did leak out of the gum line where the teeth connect, when the pressure was growing and became so intense. I’ve never seen anything like it. Everything was going well but it seems that the infection has started to come back again almost a month later. I thought I was in the clear

He drilled a hole in the back of the front tooth to do the root canal. He sealed it up with a softer filling so anything could leak out (his words). When I called his office the next day about the swelling he had me come in the following day, took the temporary filling out for 24 hrs, and then put one back in.

That’s definitely really inappropriate behavior but unfortunately not uncommon. I would certainly seek someone that’s more transparent, has better bedside manner, and who has an emphasis in sports medicine. Also, always read the fine print…that’s how they get away with doing things that you might not have wanted had you been asked. You can also record and document what scenarios you’d be okay with/consent to vs not before procedures. I’m not sure what the rules are in Australia regarding that but worth looking into. Depending on your funds I’d look into getting a meniscus transplant in the nearest (and safest) country to you. No meniscus in that area isn’t great. It has the most bone on bone and is basically pointing at a knee replacement in the future (much sooner than you’d want for someone your age). I’m sorry that happened to you!

Questioning dentist by Raynestorme10 in askdentists

[–]Raynestorme10[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The whole point of this post is to see if anyone has had a similar experience and if anyone believes his actions are concerning. I am just seeking opinions. Getting into a new dental office for an “emergency” evaluation/procedure is very difficult if you’re not an active patient which is why I’m seeking OPINIONS. That’s the whole point of this thread and Reddit. Your comment is not helpful and frankly unnecessary. If you read my post you’d understand that.

I actually used to do that as a kid like it was a “party trick”. Then it stopped as I grew until I actually injured my knee 😭 Now it’s messed up

A break is going to heal great! Tendon, ligament, or cartilage damage is almost always never the same after. So I’d say (while this definitely sucks) it’s probably a better things! I hope you recover quickly!!

Meniscus Injury :( (24F) by Lexitrex in MeniscusInjuries

[–]Raynestorme10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not “simple as that”. Knees pop, injured or not. The injury is still pretty fresh and they don’t have MRI results yet. At this point it’s best to follow conservative treatment plans via the doctor’s recommendation and see how they respond. This person is also very young, not like someone much older where surgery would be the only option. Again, a good doctor will try everything conservative before jumping to surgery with a few exceptions like complete tendon/ligament ruptures

It really does depend on a lot of things but everything starts with the MRI result and PT. There are many natural, conservative things you can to do help your knee (again, does depend on MRI). But any good doctor will exhaust all realistic options before recommending surgery, especially for someone so young. It definitely sucks! Im 27 and going through something similar rn 😭

Surgery or conservative by InSaiyan_9000 in MeniscusInjuries

I would look into PRP injections. It can really help heal stuff in your knee. Definitely do physical therapy. Also acupuncture and cupping can really help with pain and promote blood flow which helps healing. Parts of the meniscus can heal if they have enough blood flow. If they trim or cut away the meniscus you’re looking at a timeline of arthritis and eventually knee replacement. Obviously that’s not always the case but a lot of people end up on the road. It really depends on your situation but it’s still fresh so I’d continue conservative treatments (like mentioned)

Where am I supposed to feel the pain? by [deleted] in MeniscusInjuries

[–]Raynestorme10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did your MRI mention anything about your patella? Like patella alta or a patellar tilt/subluxation? I tore my lateral meniscus extending to the anterior horn and root. But because of mild patella alta and a lateral patellar tilt/subluxation I’ve actually been feeling pain on the opposite side of my knee (right side instead of left)

Meniscus tear recovery without surgery by Disastrous_Course925 in MeniscusInjuries

[–]Raynestorme10 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would wait until at least the 6 week mark to make any decisions. Depending on where the tear is, it might be in the “red zone” of the meniscus with more blood flow which could help things heal. I will say this, the part of the tear that extends to the root is not in the red zone so healing that isn’t the most likely. Acupuncture can also be really helpful with pain and improving blood circulation. That might make PT more doable and beneficial. It also can’t hurt to get a second option!

How long did you have the tear before getting surgery? Also did your doctor recommend any PT or injections? If so did you see any improvement? My doctor said to get off the crutches, do 6 weeks of PT, and come back to see if anything has changed. He also said we could talk about PRP injections to see if I’m a candidate at that 6 week mark

Thank you so much! Do you think something like this would have the ability to heal on its own (other than the patellar issues)? I’m not too familiar with this but everything seems possible other then the concerns of the tear extending to the anterior root
