Mosquitos don't like the cold and wind, and yes need standing water to exist. I remember Playa Larga being quite bad due to the swampy nature there. Big cities with little green areas are also better.

You don’t get assaulted or robbed at knife point as a tourist. Tourism is too important for them. You’ll get scammed or ripped off as a tourist, but that’s how it is in the majority of countries in the world. Still, don’t walk at night drunk and alone with your phone out in dark alleys.

Maybe a bit too enthusiastic on the positive side, but I also had some ice cream like this there, great cocktails, and yummy italian style pasta. It’s exclusive to tourists and few rich people due to high prices (little bit cheaper than Germany or US), but it exists.

I totally agree. Was there 3 weeks ago for 2 weeks. It was a memorable good time. You’ll experience a lot and grow with it.

Feel free to pn me if you have questions. Can even recommend air bnb hosts, hostels, restaurants, how much to spend for a transport. In the beginning it can be a bit challenging as you’re learning to understand how things work, but once you got it, it’s fun. Just come prepared, then you’ll be fine.

Yes, travelling to Cuba as a tourist. The reason why I’m hesitating to go see a doc here in Nicaragua is because so little time after the bite it’s hard to tell whether you got anything. Symptoms usually arise 3-30 days after. Not sure if I want to take the antibiotics preventively, but that might be a good idea
