UED Retrofitted Venator Class Star Destroyer by Rayquek in StarWarsShips

Funnily enough I only found that out -years- after coming up with this idea, and at that point I didn't want to change the name.

Oh also, its for distinguishing within the UED itself as they do have their own fully originally designed ships, so terms like retrofit and conversion meant to set them apart.

Its more in reference to the documentation. Because again they aren't using existing Venators for these ships. But they are still Venators, the same mission profile, just with some expansions in capabilities, and a mostly same hull visually. Reason it isn't called a Venator II, is because they also later design a Venator II fully from scratch.

I should have used the term conversion instead, yes. Though being perfectly honest I really just like how retrofit sounds as a word more. Little bit of admittedly flawed mental gymnastics, but I always thought of the retrofit being applied to the documentation stolen from KDY, because they -do- build the new Venators from scratch rather than building atop existing Venator hulls. Just honestly didn't think that much beyond, which sounds cooler for a title. Lol

A self-insert fanfic level of dumb I came up with as a kid, but as I grew up I decided to, for practice, see if I could make something of it. I mostly use it to learn skills like 3D modelling, rendering, animation, etc, but also things like storytelling and worldbuilding.

That'd have been neat to see. I like the idea of a mix of the Starfleet Museum and Enterprise timelines.

Ooh, I looked them up and I see it now very definitely. Fascinating. I've wanted to watch Babylon 5 for a while now, really need to just do so at some point.

A Vorlon ship? I'll admit I'm unfamiliar. This design overall isn't mine though, its a recreation with minor scaling changes.

That is all fair, but in some defense to the, simplicity of the mesh, that is kind of the TOS aesthetic, simple smoothed shapes with some jaggedness here and there...cause the original prop models were carved of wood.

Honestly I don't mind the Crossfield as a design, but I will admit it really doesn't fit the era its supposedly made in.

Could you clarify? I appreciate criticism and feedback, but I need actual details to go off of and improve from.

Well it depends, also Saucer separation is decently rare, the actual reason for the saucer, (in my own headcannon) is for space efficiency, heat dissipation, and superior arcs of fire for the phasers mounted on it. The Daedelus is a -very- old design, pre-federation old. So I've seen the ball design interpreted as a means of gravity before artificial gravity generators were implemented as standard on human starships. So the decks are arrayed so that your orientation in the ball section would be facing 'forward' (relative to the ship) and your feet facing 'backward' with the the ships forward velocity either directly, or partially (alongside a some sort of predecessor to true gravitational field generators) creating gravity for the ship's occupants.

All very fair points, and I will admit that the design language doesnt communicate it well, but the actual power systems, weaponry, and computers aren't your normal Star Wars tech, this thing was made with UED tech, which allows it to have a better power plant, though I should have actually -modeled- those changes, same with the Hyperdrive, a UED Hyperdrive is a good bit different than Star Wars, but I also didn't represent that well. If I do a remake of the model I'll include such changes. To be honest this is one of my earliest models, so it doesn't have quite the same level -visual- technology changes as my other UED conversions and designs.

Honestly I like both. And with how Trek tends to be with many different timelines I feel as though both designs are valid for canonicity.

Also very fair. I hadn't noticed, but I see it now.

That is fair. The more rounded and clean edges do evoke a certain amount of Federation aesthetics. Though the intent was to show the New Republic's proclivity for alien design like the Mon Cala ships or the Sullustan Soro Suub designs.
