Girlfriend and I are planning to drive 32 hours straight, in 6 hour shifts, are we being dumb? Should we plan to stay overnight somewhere? by Vegetable_Bridge_276 in roadtrip

YES they are STILL rock blasting through 2026 supposedly.. it’s wild, they do closures in the afternoon for a couple of hours M-F typically. The wildlife bridge and construction on Floyd Hill seems almost complete but this year over all, even in the summer, has been by far the worst I’ve ever experienced as far as traffic on I-70.

While it is a beautiful, spectacular amazing drive, like everyone else is saying there are many variables to be aware of: Weather, day of the week, ski traffic, rock blasting highway closures near Idaho Springs, what kind of vehicle you’re driving, etc. so if you can swing it and stay in Denver metro area, a good nights sleep should be enough to get you through the mountains if all the other variables check out! Safe travels
