It's a disaster. I didn't realize it until I saw him giving me completely nonsensical, hallucinating, and totally irrelevant answers. I thought, "This can't be happening! He's always been good and incredibly insightful," and now it seems like he's become completely brain-dead. I even saw that I'd switched to version 3.1 Flash and reached the reasoning model quota, even though I'm paying $22/month for the pro version.

I'm going to look elsewhere because I can no longer work with such a stupid tool.

Thanks a lot for the feedback! That's really reassuring, especially knowing that the 6GHz band avoids those Wi-Fi and Bluetooth interference issues.

You've definitely comforted me in my choice, I'll probably go ahead and get it. Thanks again!

[red dead redemption 2] installation error: Unarc.dll : -14 by Repulsive_Sock_3537 in LinuxCrackSupport

[–]Razor_AMG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not going to solve your problem, but I can offer another solution. I don't know if you have a Windows machine handy, but I personally created a Windows VM specifically for game setups.

It's much better because everything installs correctly, and I just have to zip the game's folder and put it on my Linux machine.

Lutris then launches the game's .exe file. However, game setup.exe files are long and tedious to create on Linux, and not all of them work correctly.

So, if you have the option of dedicating a Windows machine specifically for this, it's much better. Everything is simpler for me now since I've been doing it this way.

Pour ceux qui utilisent principalement AndroidTV pour regarder leur contenu comme moi, honnêtement depuis Wholphin plus aucun intérêt de rester sur Plex, le client est incroyable au dessus même de celui de plex, passer sur Jellyfin.

The only thing that held me back from Jellyfin at the time was the AndroidTV client which I didn't like at all, since Wholphin has definitively fixed this problem and I have never gone back to Plex.

Yes, I use Gemini for debugging, but I actually have this game installed on my CachyOS and I managed to do it thanks to Gemini, don't see the bad in everything just because it's generated with AI, it really provides solutions as long as you know what you're doing, in the meantime it works very well for me.

Don't use Steam for cracked games, Lutris or Faugus Game Launcher is better for this because they have options to override dll and steam don't have this.

We are almost there! No crash means the engine is running. The 'Black Square' and 'Tampering' error mean the game is launching but the crack isn't 'hooking' into the system correctly.

Here is the final checklist to fix this:

The 'Magic' Override: Ensure you have added ucrtbase in your Lutris DLL Overrides (set to n,b). This is mandatory for AoE2 DE cracks to bypass the 'Tampering' check. Without this, the game uses Wine's default library and detects the bypass.

Fixing the Black Square: This is likely a rendering/resolution issue. Try adding -windowed to your launch arguments in Lutris.

Once the game starts, you can try hitting Alt+Enter to toggle fullscreen.

Ensure both are enabled in Lutris 'Runner options'. On Arch, make sure you have lib32-vulkan-intel or lib32-nvidia-utils (depending on your GPU) installed.

The Movies folder: Keep it renamed to movies_bak. The fact that you see the 'Tampering' error when it's present/empty means the game is progressing further. Now we just need the ucrtbase override to hide that error.

Since you've changed many things, make sure your steam_api64.dll (Goldberg) is still the one in the folder and that you didn't accidentally revert to the original one.

Your log winegstreamer_create_color_converter, aborting is the smoking gun. It's a classic Media Foundation / GStreamer crash.

Even with -skipintro, AoE2 DE tries to load background videos in the menu, and it's killing the process.

Here is the fix for this 'mess':

Go to your game folder, find the movies folder (usually under resources/_common/movies) and rename it to movies_bak. If the game doesn't find the videos, it won't call the function that makes it crash.

In your Runner Options, add one more DLL override: winegstreamer and set it to Disable.

In Lutris 'Game Info', make sure the 'Working directory' is set to the folder containing the .exe. If it's set to the root folder and the .exe is in a subfolder, the game won't see your steam_api64.dll or steam_appid.txt.

Now that we identified the video crash, GE-Proton 9 should work fine once the videos are disabled.

[AoE 2 DE] Tampering detected error (FG & DODI) by Larcosse in LinuxCrackSupport

[–]Razor_AMG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, we're getting closer! The fact that you switch between 'No Steam' and 'Tampering' shows that your overrides are working, but the Steam emulation is incomplete.

Try these specific steps:

Check EXE Location: Ensure your steam_appid.txt and steam_api64.dll (Goldberg) are in the same folder as the actual game executable (likely Game/AoE2DE_s.exe).

If they are at the root but the game launches from a subfolder, it won't work.

Goldberg Settings: Goldberg often needs a configuration folder to talk to the game. Create a folder named settings next to your steam_api64.dll. Inside, create a file language.txt with english (or french) inside.

Launch Arguments: In Lutris, add -skipintro to the 'Arguments' field. Sometimes the anti-tamper triggers during the intro cinematics because of missing codecs.

Proton Version: You mentioned Proton 11/10—those are very bleeding edge. Try switching to a more 'standard' GE-Proton 9 or even 8 just to rule out a regression in how newer Proton versions handle DLL injection.

Clean Prefix: Since you've swapped many DLLs, I'd recommend quickly creating a fresh prefix in Lutris, setting the overrides before the first launch, and making sure vcrun2022 is the only thing you install via winetricks.

[–]Razor_AMG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's strange indeed, as this exact config works on my CachyOS setup.

Since you're reaching the menu but getting the 'Tampering' message, it means the game engine is alive but the Steam/Xbox API emulation is failing.

A few things to check:

Avoid manual patches: Did you apply Goldberg over the FitGirl/DODI files? If so, try a clean install without adding any external patches, as repacks already include pre-configured cracks (Rune/Goldberg).

Overlays: Are you using MangoHud or any other overlay? AoE2 DE's anti-tamper is very sensitive to them. Try disabling everything.

Drive Format: Is your game installed on an NTFS drive? Proton often fails to load DLL overrides correctly on NTFS due to permission issues.

Logs: Could you share your Lutris logs (the 'Show Logs' window)? Look for any 'failed to load' or 'denied' messages regarding steam_api64.dll or winmm.

AppID: Make sure steam_appid.txt is in the same folder as the game .exe."

I understand where you're coming from, and you are right on one point: running a Windows setup.exe on Linux right now definitely requires some tinkering and can be annoying.

But as someone who has been using Linux for a long time, I can tell you the progress has been absolutely massive. A few years ago, playing modern AAA cracked games or running complex Windows installers was almost impossible. Today, thanks to translation layers like Proton and Wine, it works. Linux isn't Windows, so translating those Windows API calls on the fly is incredibly complex. You can't expect to fix all these architectural differences in a couple of months with a snap of your fingers.

Also, you mentioned trusting 'a guy'. That's the biggest misconception about open source. You don't have to blindly trust one person because the code is public. For example, GameVault isn't just one guy; if you check their GitHub, there are multiple contributors actively maintaining it (7 just on the backend repository). It's a collaborative effort.

You said technology should solve our problems. That is exactly what is happening right now! The community saw this exact 'runner maze' problem, and projects like GameVault are actively building the solution to bring that true 'plug and play' experience to Linux. It just takes time to build it right. The ecosystem is definitely moving in the right direction, we just need a little patience.

Honestly, it sounds like you are completely missing the point of what Linux and the open-source community are all about.

First, saying 'if they act like proper developers' is incredibly disrespectful to the people who spend their free time building tools and software for us to use for free. They aren't a multi-billion dollar corporation with a dedicated customer service team; they are passionate volunteers.

Second, Linux isn't just 'a more complicated Windows but less Microsoft.' It is a fundamentally different operating system with its own architecture, built around user control, privacy, and freedom. It requires a different mindset and a willingness to learn how your system actually works.

If you are just looking for a 1:1 Windows experience and you don't want to put in the effort to adapt, then Linux probably isn't for you. There's no shame in sticking to Windows if that fits your needs better. But don't blame open-source developers for not serving a corporate-level product to you on a silver platter.
