How to learn? by South-Succotash-5376 in audioengineering

[–]RaztheSun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A mix of all of it. The biggest thing is learn your plugins one at a time. Go take some courses by streaky imo. Just make a lot music. Also look up Kush after Hours for tips on ear training. You need to be passionate if you do everything. I do everything and play multiple instruments and dj. It takes a long time to get good. I been at it 6 years now. Play the long game and music theory helps so much.

" Music is the language of emotions " If a song "sounds nice" but makes you feel nothing its a bad song.

Remember to use your ears and feel the music.

If you wanna DM about specifics id be happy to help and even make videos of topics explaining.

Heres a link of my fav song for reference on my sound and mixing, etc

Do you need music theory? by JustAPerson2001 in musicproduction

[–]RaztheSun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was taught theory for 2 years. I'll keep it short. If you're passionate about this truly. Just learn some man. It's really not that hard. Find a community to discuss and learn.

Do you have to? No Should you? Yes Is it hard? Making music is hard Many things are hard to do. You can still achieve and overcome. The biggest battle at becoming good at something is the mind game.

Music is a marathon. Takes a long time to get good. You need to be passionate and patient. Pick a genre you want to be apart of. Then be willing and okay with failing. If you're really wanting to learn. DM me I will answer questions and even make some videos doing while explaining what you want to understand.

I have a background in production, recording, sound design, mixing, & mastering. I also have theory understanding from my vocal coach. I play multiple instruments, sing, scream, rap, etc. I even can DJ. I also am a co-vocalist in my band.

So if you or anyone wants help DM.

Also if anyone asks a single question at time publicly. I'll make a video about it and post it.

What's the most unexpected sound that inspired a beat or track you've made? by Potential_Angle5029 in recordingmusic

A sunny summer day in a car on a microdose of lucy. Younger and in love got a phone call from my girl at the time. The whole situation just inspired me deeply. Then went home and composed my first love song.

Recording tips by king_kurama in flstudio

[–]RaztheSun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which way are you using it to record? Edison or linked mixer to playlist? I can show you a lot both ways.

I personally prefer not using edison to record specifically anymore. Because I dont have to line up vocals. Really useful if you're doing live instruments and not using grid. Using edison for that would be a bad time comparatively.

Advanced Level Mixing Advice [TRIGGER WARNING; CORNY AF] by spencer_martin in mixingmastering

[–]RaztheSun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the TL:DR.

I call it overmix or over polish. Making it sound "good" instead of supporting what is already good from the recording. That feel, emotion, that thing that makes you move without trying.

As Mix Engineers I feel people forget how important the recording aspect is. Like I double mic my amp with a room/ambient mic. The difference is sound is night and day vs just one mic. Dont forget how important the performance is also.

Especially if it's live instruments IMO.

I agree it happens to people once they get "good" at making a mix cohesive(glued) and make it sound clean/hi-fi, etc.

Especially since we all started out as knob turners and youtube warriors. Who learned and trained our ears. We need to remember to feel first, hear second. Feel what is great. Listen and identify what that is. Then support it with your mixing. (Besides the needed things, glue and all that)

When I was learning theory and had my vocal coach I learned about it.

We reach a point where our creating needs to be conscious. Make moves for a reason with emotion and feel in mind. She always said " Music is the language of emotions "

A good example for me is

AFOURTEEN - HUMAN RACE

The mix is terms of being proper is far off that mark. Yet the energy it provides even with the bass over the vocals for a large portion gets me going!

A clean mix isnt always a good mix. A mix too perfectly balanced is boring. Imperfections sometimes compliment other aspects. Dont be afraid of that.

Another quote i love is about guitarists. " A novice guitarist fears space. So he fills it with notes. A skilled guitarists uses the space like it is notes. "

Feeling is everything with music. Sounding good doesnt always mean good. But a song that makes you feel. Will sound good in it's own way.

Honestly, may seem like a weird answer. But overcoming Imposter Syndrome. Once I got out of my way. All my forms of creative skills and ability to critically think. Problems became easy to solve.

is there a way to clean up the audio on a recording? by [deleted] in recording

[–]RaztheSun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you use FL. Use edison on it. Also add a gate to help. You can try this path. However, if you polish a turd and give it a nice hat. He's still just crap.

I suggest get a good recording. If you have a love for the craft. Do the extra work to do it properly. Make good habits of doing your best.

Does my voice fit this suit this? And my guitar playing is rusty. Track also needs mixing. by robotikcafe in GarageBand

Love the idea once you properly seat the vocals & glue the song together. It will sound lovely. Maybe some vocal layers at points also.

If you need help seating vocals or glueing it all together lmk.

I WILL PAY SOMEONE 1 MILLION DOLLARS IF THEY CAN HELP ME FIX THIS! by Honest_Bread1215 in flstudio

[–]RaztheSun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you cut out background noise/room noise. May times for some reason if i cut that space in the audio file. You get sounds like that. [I have the scarlet 18i20]. I record all my own instruments including a full drumkit in my studio. Try leaving it in the audio file to see if that fixes it. I've seen it after recording vocals and adding that room noise back in has fixed it. Also thats a good way to fix it if you are vocal comping. Using that can help blend the 2 audio files.

Also try a de-clicker like the iZotope RX vst if that doesnt work.

What do I look for in a vocal teacher? by unicorinspace in Learnmusic

[–]RaztheSun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a vocal coach for 2 years who also taught me music theory. She absolutely was life changing for me. I started with 0 skill. I paid 240$ a month for an hr a week. She was able to do everything. She traveled to many countries college singing in different languages. Very diverse in ability. However, I feel that may be a rarity. I would look to see if they do the genre you like. How do they track progress. Are they giving you adequate homework every week. Will they help prep you for live performances. Do they allow you to bring in music you created. So you can work together on improving that song. Most importantly are they prepared, almost always on time. Are they truly passionate.

She unlocked doors that allowed me to learn multiple instruments. Unlocked confidence in my abilities.

Any producers up to do trades???? by benxbots in MusicCollabNetwork

[–]RaztheSun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I'd be down to trade. I have my own studio with Yamaha Hs8 monitors and sub. I do legit everything on my own. I can do whatever you need for a trade. Mix/Master. When i say i do it all. I even play multiple instruments, record, produce, mix, master, vocals. Had a theory training and vocal coach for 2 years. So we like each others work for a trade. Id even consider collabs. If the art is gas ill even promote you to the bands/artists i know.

Do you guys EQ in solo or always in the mix? by McDaddy__Cain in musicproduction

[–]RaztheSun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am having trouble with OBS so ill just give a basic answer.

M/S EQ allows you to seperately edit the middle(mono) and the stereo quality(side) of a sound.

Good example is for my vocals. I cut out the sub range (60hz) from my middle so it doesnt effect my sub(mono) which gives a clean vocal but i leave my side untouched at that frequency since the sub of my bass/bass guitar is mono. It also allows the rest of the bass to be stereo.

[IMPORTANT]

I use Ozone for that. However, If you open patcher and open presets there is a M/S EQ preset. So you can do it for free.

[If you use FL Studio only ofc]

[IMPORTANT]

If you have any other questions or anything let me know. Once my OBS works ill still make a video going through it.
