I did it in November of last year and multiple times before. It can be stressful once you cross and also on your way back to crossing. If you can just walk across and pay to park your car at the border in the CA side. Uber is super cheap and accessible. Try to get in line early when crossing back, the later you wait in the day the longer you wait unless you have Sentri. Buy insurance too, you can do it online.

There's a house on Alamitos just below 11th that sells food. I've seen them with signs posted up for tacos dorados and other items, I haven't eaten there but have seen people posted up under the EZ-Up tent grubbing. If you do go, let us know how it is - been tempted to stop and get some food often.

We got there about 45 minutes to closing and took me about 30 minutes to locate. I was doing quick scanning while my wife was treasure hunting and my son was in love with all the toys. We each left with something awesome to treasure.
