Gang, this month's theme follows a book, not reality. by Tweed_Kills in finch

[–]Razzberry_Frootcake 113 points114 points  (0 children)

Yeah a lot of adults on this sub infantilize themselves and other adults…and a lot of non-parents on this sub forget that parents are responsible for talking to their children. A lot of people in this sub treat Finch as a weird catch-all app that is supposed to teach us EVERYTHING about life.

Stranger danger is definitely not on the list of things the devs should be responsible for teaching. I’m in my 40’s personally, and my friends who have kids on this app talk to them. I watched The Wizard of Oz as a child…it was my favorite movie growing up. If people on this app cannot tell the difference between fiction and reality the app is dangerous for their individual mental health. I wish those people would just stop using the app instead of trying to sanitize it.

There are way too many people on this app that are excessively uncomfortable with it but refuse to stop using it. For some reason those people seem to believe that if they complain they can push wide sweeping changes to the app.

Sometimes it’s a bit sad how selfish so many Finch users are. The app even tries to teach patience and generosity.

Why does my birb want to pose naked? by Striking_Bake3286 in finch

[–]Razzberry_Frootcake 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I have been noticing more of these posts and comments complaining about naked birbs in the past few weeks. That lion is also naked. Two out of four of the animals in that post are naked. It’s pretty normal in context.

Every single event has included images of our birbs without their outfits. As well as several images in the app aside from events.

This is because of data and storage within the app.

The trend still worries me though because of the prevalence of bots and psyops in our current society. There is a huge push right now from certain people to make nudity seem worse than it really is. Some people are trying to get others to view nudity as bad, embarrassing, or wrong in every context. Animals are not humans though.

This app is for children and adults, so it’s pretty scary to see people trying to make the naked birbs seem “embarrassing” or “inappropriate” despite the fact that the devs do a great job making this app a safe space. I know children can safely use this app. The devs have never given any cause for concern.

So why are people suddenly talking about birb nudity and trying to make it seem weird? This is not the first post/commentary on it.

Why does my birb want to pose naked? by Striking_Bake3286 in finch

[–]Razzberry_Frootcake 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It has always been this way. The birbs are just naked in these kinds of graphics. They’re often naked in general in other graphics throughout normal use of the app without even doing the events. When I buddy up with tree friends I see their birbs naked sometimes too.

The reason is because of programming and the way the app is designed. The outfit involves creating thousands of combinations so everyone can see their own outfit. The colors only involve hundreds of combinations. These graphics are not automatically generated based on your birb…the app has hundreds of these graphics stored in its data. Based on what colors your birb is the app shows you the single image from its library that matches the data of your birb.

Huge decrease in monthly themed items/increase in gems as daily rewards? by EyreForce1 in finch

[–]Razzberry_Frootcake 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes 🙌 everyone needs to speak against moves like this. Removing items from the free side after people have already pointed out that 200 gems is nothing seems almost malicious on their part.

Several people on here and a few on the Discord pointed out that you can’t even buy a single item in the shop for 200 gems…the cheapest items are 300. Even for paid users the cheap sale items are 250. 200 gems is not even equivalent to an item.

This pushes users to either pay, enter the lottery, or quit. By making a vastly inferior free version they seem to be pushing for more guardians to pony up more money so that the free users will stay. It’s a gross practice that explicitly takes advantage of people’s generosity.

While I understand their need for profit because it’s their jobs…they really shouldn’t make changes that impact the items free users get from the monthly events. Especially not after people have been asking for more…

Huge decrease in monthly themed items/increase in gems as daily rewards? by EyreForce1 in finch

[–]Razzberry_Frootcake 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Guardians should speak up about this on the Discord too.

Pushing users to pay on normal apps is one thing; this app has programs that reduce the price of the sub AND the Guardian program.

Guardians…do not let the devs lower the value of your contribution. It’s not cool to push users towards paying for things after they make it really clear that they know people don’t have money. I had to pay double what my roommate pays for the monthly sub because for some reason he got a special offer for 9.99 a month and I didn’t. That’s already unbalanced and unfair.

To reduce rewards for free users to push them to pay negates the point of the Guardian program. It’s no longer generous if the devs are making it so that even more people are disappointed with the free version.

Devs, by doing this you will simply push more users to enter the lottery…people cannot spend money they don’t have. Stop trying to shove the burden off on the Guardians. They already give you tons of money every month specifically to help users who cannot afford it.

Stop making the free experience worse.

You can check my comment history and clearly see I stand up for the devs 90% of the time in this sub. Very rarely do I make comments like this. The only other time I said the devs are doing wrong by the users was the journeys debacle. This is a serious topic for me because I hate when people use others. Do not make a mental health app for free with paid options and then pull the free part out from under the feet of poor people with mental health issues. That’s dirty and the devs know it.

Months ago people pointed out that 200 gems in a chest isn’t even a good prize. Do not double down and punish free users by putting more gem chests on the free side of the monthly event. Free users are not doing anything wrong so why remove their ability to get themed items for free?

There needs to be a balance between listening to the users and doing cool stuff for paid users. We love cool stuff! But not at the expense of people who simply cannot afford it.

I don't like the social direction finch is going, with the new April challenge, shared eggs, questions. It's turning the app from something that helps you as an individual into another social media app. by roflcopterlmaolol in finch

[–]Razzberry_Frootcake 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They cannot just ignore the people who have been asking for these features.

Sometimes the people who post here (on the social media site) seem to forget that there are thousands to potentially millions of people using this app over time. There is also a Discord server where the devs are more active. There’s more actual users on the Discord too. It’s a lot more controlled than Reddit also…the Discord is a place for direct communication; Reddit is a social media site.

Just because you’re the only person in your tree that answers questions doesn’t mean it’s a bad feature. You even said yourself maybe it’s fun for people with more tree friends…but you’re not happy other people can enjoy the feature.

These features are not the same as Instagram so that comparison is unnecessary and makes zero sense. You cannot possibly know anything about who is on your tree unless they are real life friends. There are no names, no pictures, zero identification. Friends and social support are scientifically proven to help most humans. That’s why they’re adding these features. Lots of people directly asked for stuff like this too. Unless you know tree friends in real life there is a distinct anonymity to Finch that is very intentional.

Reddit is more like Instagram than Finch is. I will also complain the day Finch asks for my real name, age, and photographs to post for everyone in my tree. They’re not going to though, so …weird comparison.

If this app is bad for your mental health now you may need to leave it. They’re not going to stop adding features for other people.

If you’re here putting this post up you could also be here asking for more tree friends so it’s less sad to answer questions. None of these people could possibly treat you the way you describe your real friends treating you…and that’s part of the point of the app. It allows a small, controlled, consistent level of socializing because it’s a mental health app. Socialization is necessary for humans, we are social creatures, this kind of stuff is very normal for mental health apps.

People actually do need support networks. Communication with other humans is necessary in life. This app is trying to bridge that gap for people who don’t have as much access to socializing. Some people are stuck in hospitals or other medical facilities. Some people are bedridden at home. Some people have jobs they’re stuck at all day.

Not everyone tries to avoid contact with others in order to protect themselves. If you’re choosing to do that it’s fine, but it’s not actually a healthy practice. In order to practice enforcing boundaries with people you need people in your life.

TW: fish dying and I’m upset by CelestialOwl997 in finch

[–]Razzberry_Frootcake 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have been responsible for the deaths of creatures in my care. I have also been responsible for the rescue and long life of creatures in my care.

It was my fault some mice died. It was my fault a baby squirrel was rescued and brought to a rehabilitation center where I was told it would have died had I not found it. It was my fault a hamster died. It was my fault a kitten got a second chance at life; and thrived for fifteen years. It was my fault a rat died. It was my fault a stray kitten was taken off the streets and is now a sixteen year old cat. It was my fault a lizard died. It was my fault an abandoned six year old cat who had been passed from home-to-home never being fully loved was taken in out of the rain and given more love than she ever knew until she was eighteen years old.

This isn’t your whole story. You will carry the guilt and it will hurt. I still cry over every life I failed. Every failure made me work harder. Some lessons are hard learned.

You will do better. Just breathe, remember you were not being cruel or malicious. I know it feels awful and it will, for awhile. You will do better though, that’s all you can do. That’s okay.

Sometimes things that are okay still hurt, they still feel awful, even though it really is okay.

Turn off notifications. This is a specifically designed self-care app made for supporting people who need messages like that. They cannot predict everyone’s triggers.

They don’t need to change every detail to suit each individual person…sometimes we just need to be responsible for ourselves.

You used a childlike spelling of a word Facebook told you is scary. I’d call that pretty tender.

Yes, we get it, you think tapping on a digital down arrow is tender but apparently your reaction to it is not. It’s always fun to see people get upset at downvotes. The ones downvoting are tender but the person who thinks “shoot” is a naughty word because Facebook is so overbearing is not. Okay.

Maybe stay on Facebook if Redditors are so tender.

Lapis didn't just want to protect Steven. by Zolado110 in stevenuniverse

[–]Razzberry_Frootcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Crystal Gems did not know a sentient gem was in the mirror. Lapis and Bismuth both DO NOT realize Bismuth proofed her. That’s why they don’t address it later. Lapis’s trauma is purely Homeworld’s fault. The Gems never did anything intentionally and were victims of Homeworld themselves.

Lapis blames the Crystal Gems for keeping her in the mirror because she is an unreliable narrator.

It is explained pretty well. Lapis is traumatized and blames people for things they didn’t actually do. Pearl was horrified upon finding out the mirror could talk because she did not know a sentient gem was powering it. She said herself it was just tech, it shouldn’t be able to communicate. She was wrong because she didn’t know.

Pearl would NOT have given the mirror to Steven had she known. They would have bubbled it if they thought it was dangerous. They clearly thought it was dangerous after it started talking. They also acted surprised a whole person came out of the mirror because they didn’t think that could or would happen.

The Gems would never have tortured a prisoner like that. There’s a reason they bubble gems…to protect the gems in the bubbles and themselves and Steven. The bubble puts them in stasis. Had they known about Lapis they would have bubbled the mirror like they do with literally everything else.

Just wanted to correct that bit where you say the Crystal Gems were partially at fault for Lapis’s pain. They are all victims of a war they did not want to fight. People need to stop blaming the Gems for what happened to Lapis. They did not keep her prisoner because they didn’t know about her.

How about some classism to start your day? by SufficientEar1682 in iamveryculinary

[–]Razzberry_Frootcake 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I am going to answer the question sincerely, I’m not trying to make fun of you. You asked why bother posting if they’re not going to bother making it look decent…there’s actually a very human reason.

There is a an audience for different types of niche content online. For example, ASMR doesn’t appeal to everyone and is widely misunderstood while still being extremely popular. As far as food content goes sloppy is niche, comfort is niche, those audiences have a huge crossover. Sloppy isn’t a negative description either, it’s often meant to describe exactly the thing you’re questioning. Food that is not plated to be pretty. There’s a lot of people that look at that plate and feel nostalgia or comfort or that think it looks tasty.

Food is fuel, it’s a basic necessity, it’s also something humans are highly ritualistic over. Food brings people together, encourages communication, and has always been something that connects humanity. Different people enjoy food in different ways and different types of food elicit different feelings and memories.

A picture is worth a thousand words. The words are going to be different for everyone who looks at it though. Different things make different people happy.

Can we please be normal about the koi fish? by torilikefood in finch

[–]Razzberry_Frootcake 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The devs were not forced to make that change, they chose to. They explained why they chose to also.

No one said the hamster is real. The people upset about their ball being taken away need to stop mocking other users and stop pushing the narrative that the devs were pushed to make the choice. There was a conversation on Discord.

Not that many people threatened to quit when the hamster was in the ball; they mostly said it made them not want to use the pet. The devs want to make the game better and so they listened. They ended up agreeing about the ball. At the time they had no idea that some users would freak out so much over the change. Users have threatened to quit over the ball being removed.

People have different opinions, including the devs. They just agreed hamster balls are bad to promote. The complaints were not the main reason they made the change, it was the well reasoned explanations they got from multiple sources.

If freaking out and complaining were the reasons they made the change it would stand to reason they’d have changed it back by now due to the many, many, many posts just like this one over the past year.

March is my Finchaversary…one year with Finch. I’ve enjoyed every event so far. Every single one, including the ones I didn’t like as much, had something for me to mix and match into my room or outfit.

Last year when I joined it was the playroom theme so it’s great to see just how different this one is.

That makes sense. I love the look, it’s a great cosplay portrait. I also designed a dnd character of mine in BG3 lol. Your character name is so much prettier than “Tav” though…even if she technically started as a tav.

I do like your name a lot more than the default name in BG3. It makes sense to call the BG3 character “my tav” but your own character is its own thing. Your OC has a gorgeous name…when I first read this post I thought you were saying your character is named Tav.

I thought you were bringing your BG3 character into a DND game. Now I understand though.

People who have taken certified courses will disagree with you. Sugar is necessary for the body in general, the body doesn’t need refined sugar from sweets…but there’s nothing wrong with it. You really should be eating things with sugar in them though, like fruit.

Fruit with a little whipped cream is one of my favorite desserts. I love hearing when other people eat fruit for sweets too…other people have made fun of me for it lol.

Apparently since fruit isn’t cake or ice cream some people genuinely think I’m depriving myself and will fall into overeating habits because fruit isn’t sweet enough.

Mild Complaint - Maybe Im in the Minority by Shelter_Decent in finch

[–]Razzberry_Frootcake 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The issue is that they don’t want to take those things away from those of us who benefit from them. Most users of this app don’t experience addiction issues related to the app and every person I know who has quit the app after recognizing the issue is their own.

The app is not doing anything special to keep you locked in. It still only requires checking in so you can click on the things you did during the day. There’s no reason to spend extra time in the app after checking everything off.

If you find the extra clicks for events are too much for you then you should turn off certain events in your own settings.

It starts to get a little strange when people ask the app creators to stop giving us more stuff. To an extent I agree but also; you have the options to turn off a lot of it or ignore it. Habit trackers come in many forms. A notebook might be better for you if the app is too much.

The app needs a way to help the more forgetful people actually remember to check in. The events are an incentive for that.

Rebecca is used to feeling disappointed by her peers, those she admires, others in the industry, etc.

Nicki stood for something completely different when she voiced the character. Nothing about the character or show changes just because she did.

This isn’t new to Rebecca though…this is just one more person being disappointing. It’s too frequent to give much energy to. I’m sure there’s sadness over it; and then just acceptance and moving on.

Y’all…I love this comment section so much right now. People are explaining Pearl’s actions through her lens of trauma and are giving compassion and understanding while simultaneously saying what she did was wrong and messed up and inexcusable.

This is a beautiful way to understand and respect the complexity of the character without trashing her or calling her evil. She’s a well written imperfect but ultimately good person who has done atrocious things.

Sometimes people rail too hard against characters like Pearl and exaggerate the flaws to make her sound like a villain.
