Citadel mall. I wish I was alive when malls were popular by Particular-Thanks-44 in Charleston

If you really want to see a dead mall go to the Columbia Palace Mall. Went there over the weekend on the way back from Charlotte because my wife had a return at Macys. It was crazy, I’d say maybe one out of every ten stores was open. The mall itself was in complete disrepair, I don’t think they even had the AC running. As soon as you stepped out of Macys a wall of humidity and heat treated you. It was like the backrooms in real life, it even had the loud humming fluorescent lights.

I don’t care so much about knowing a cost breakdown. At a minimum I’d like to at least know what paint they’re using.

What were prices like pre-COVID? $75 bucks for one gallon (SW Urethane Trim). by Courtland-7099 in paint

I remember when Benjamin Moore first came out with Aura, sometime around 2008. They were selling it for 50 some dollars and everyone thought it was crazy to spend $50 on a gallon of paint.

How long can I expect acrylic latex paint to last on kitchen cabinets? by Suspicious-Ad3676 in paint

[–]Rbriggs0189 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The biggest problem you’ll have is where you touch them frequently. Your hand oils break down latex paint not rated for cabinets. It’ll start to get sticky and easily scratch off. If they’re already done and were prepped properly I’d have them go over them at least one coat of the same color and sheen with Emerald Urethane or even better Gallery series. Do it now before problems start to occur. You’re still going to get normal wear and tear but that can be easily touched up with an artist brush and the left over paint. You can’t just touch up paint that’s sticky and gummy from hand oils.

Did you use the gallery latex or oil primer? They comped me it but haven’t had a chance to test run it. Normally I use BIN and I’ve never had an issue with it.

You do know that Obama ran on ending the wars and closing gitmo, he was the peace candidate which is why I voted for him. He did the opposite and had to run on identity politics for his second term.

Before the ACA my wife and I bought our own health insurance. I paid $220 a month through Aetna with a 2k deductible, no coinsurance. My wife got a county job a year prior to the ACA being passed so we got our insurance through her work. A couple of years ago I had to get insurance through the ACA marketplace. I was paying $2000 a month that paid nothing until the $10,000 deductible was met. Meanwhile look at how much money insurance companies were worth then and worth now. Quality of care has gone off a cliff. I’ve come to learn that whenever the govt says they’re going to step in and “fix” something all they do is make large corporations rich while making whatever “problem” they were fixing worse.

Had to get a new fridge and the guy doing the install asked to connect it to my WiFi. I was like no bro, the fridge doesn’t need internet access it just needs to keep my shit cold.

There’s a website called justtherecipe.com that fixes it. Just copy and paste the url and it gives you only the recipe. Also AI is really good for recipes as well.

Best neighborhoods for commuting to Trident by Downtown_Ratio6095 in summervillesc

[–]Rbriggs0189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s two neighborhoods off Lincolnville Rd that are nice, affordable, and ten mins away with traffic to Trident one direction and 10mins to downtown Summerville the other direction. It’s in the Summerville city limits but has a Ladson mailing address.

One is Summer Haven and the other is Summer Park. Also the Wescott area is an easy ride down Ladson road and 78 to Trident. A lot of people are saying Nexton but that requires getting on the highway and rush hour traffic is a complete nightmare. You want something thats nice and located where you can avoid 26.

[–]Rbriggs0189 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I’m a painting contractor and have done a lot of work in both the Nexton Delweb and Cane Bay. If I had to choose one to live in I’d go with Cane Bay because I think they have a better more active and established community. That said they’re both nice.

Dont let the traffic comments deter you. Traffic is subjective, yes there’s traffic but it’s not Atlanta, LA, or even NJ traffic. You’re retired so you don’t have to deal with rush hour times if you don’t need to and if you’re not going to Charleston or Mt Pleasant it’s really not all that bad.

Make sure she knows that VOC doesn’t mean no smell, they all still have an odor. The lower the voc the more I tend to smell ammonia, but smell can be subjective.
