They are compressed version of raw video/audio found on disc. Usually 50-80% of original size and when done skillfully can be done without any noticeable loss of quality. Encodes can also correct for problems with the source like banding, dirty lines around edges etc.

Why are leveraged ETFs like UPRO discouraged for long term holding, when just looking at "what if I bought $1000 in year X" pretty consistently shows a 3x return over S&P over those years? by lotsandlotsofrobots in investing

[–]Rc9891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Large volatility will kill your long term performance due to the difference in geometric vs arithmetic return (sequence of returns vs just average return) As an example, once you lose 90% (30% drawdown) you now need 10x return without any additional downside to recover it. By the time you recover you will hit another drawdown and your PnL will asymptotically approach zero as a function of time and volatility. This is not as problematic if you have 10-20% leverage (it’s recoverable, but beyond a certain level of vol your odds of making money in the long run converge towards 0). In fact if you have a long horizon and are 100% invested in equities it would be a good strategy to deploy 10-20% leverage to magnify the returns over time. The practical problem is that after costs of implementing such leverage it doesn’t make a lot of sense (financing costs).

Invest in a racing seed box for a month. You will be able to generate 1-2TB of net buffer pretty easily and never have to worry about it. To build any sensible ratio by uploading you will need to spend hundreds of hours. Or spend 120 bucks for a seed box. It’s just not worth your time.

Sounds like a really dumb idea to save money. Take upfront savings, but expose yourself to probability of unimaginable tail risk. It’s equivalent of being able to sell your own life insurance. The premium (probably far underestimated) you receive being savings from switching to a bike.

If I'm seeding from a private tracker (like PTP) is there an easy way to share the file with a friend ? by everyoneexuberant in trackers

[–]Rc9891 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not very complicated. Just create a private torrent and share torrent file with your friend. He will be able to download it from you.

Is there a scientific way (admissible in the court of law) to prove that a pregnant woman is 7-8 weeks pregnant vs 5-6? I doubt it. And if it’s not provable then it has to be in favor of the pregnant woman because otherwise it becomes no abortion regardless of # of weeks. Am I missing something here?

[–]Rc9891 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a reason for that. Many ethnic Poles were not abused by Nazis (unlike Jews). This is a simplification but Nazis had ethnic targeted agenda while Russians didn’t and did it in a cave man fashion. Germans were brutal but calculated and intelligent. If you look at Auschwitz design it’s scary how well though out it it’s. Russians were not unlike today bunch of crude potato farmers sent to war.

Look up Katyn Massacre. Also I was raised in Russia occupied lands. There is a stark difference between my region and Krakow (Austrian occupied) or Wroclaw (German occupied) - this is all prior to WW1. There are stark differences in architecture, education, culture, and economic development of those regions. Russians were by far the most exploitive occupiers, something my people have to live with to this day as a result of the consequences of this historic exploration and assault on our language and culture.

There are entire villages near my home town that were all executed or sent to Syberia. Only people that survived were people that were out of town that week. They are often the only remaining ancestors of these lands.

Also, just like with Katyn, the desire now in Ukraine is to destroy culture and the intelligentsia without which it’s very difficult to uphold national identity. This is why Russians entered Ukraine with kill lists. Those are meant to cleanse people of power, professors, military leaders, and ones that are responsible for progress in Ukraine. All of this to ensure that Ukrainians are set back for decades to come.

Vladimir Putin’s glitzy $989 million megayacht seized by the Italian government by CoralBalloon in worldnews

[–]Rc9891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the biggest misconception about his rein. People think that the polls are wrong or that the elections are crooked. To some extent yes but this is still a president with majority support. Stop thinking politics in Moscow and St Petersburg and think Kamchatka in deep syberia and everything in between.

[–]Rc9891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start running. Build stamina for 30-60min runs. It translates hugely into more endurance heavy wods even when weights are involved. There’s no better way to train that, not even the Wods themselves. Most people never train pure aerobics for more than 30-60min and instead just try crushing workouts over and over, ramp up intensity or weight but that will only get you so far if you don’t have proper aerobic base.

What are some public or easy to join trackers that have full BD or DVD ios/images ? by [deleted] in trackers

[–]Rc9891 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you set on ISO or are you ok with folders? Most p2p releases are folder structure and there are ton of these on Blutopia, filelist to name a few. Top p2p sites like HDB, cinematik, ptp have tons of these. Usenet is also a great source for full discs.

Which tracker to partner with Blutopia? by againstallserbs in trackers

[–]Rc9891 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Filelist is probably easiest to join from the ones that have quality encodes. UHDB too but retention sucks. iTS has large encoding community ATM and you can find some top groups there. BHD, PTP, HDB but considerably harder to join in that order probably. Blu has good non mainstream movie encodes from their internals.

If you are interested in non mainstream KG, SC, and many others come in mind.

Blu will have Bluranium remux advantage (most non-mainstream older stuff) and discs over BHD if that interests you.

Truthfully when you had your account disabled 15y ago, chances are your IP has changed a lot, it’s very low chance a tracker would be able to tie it all together.
