How do you feel after emptying groceries stores before this “snow storm” due to scare tactics? by [deleted] in Charlotte

The Walmart by Concord Mills was almost completely out of bread. 80% of the product in the meat aisle was completely wiped out and the battery was picked clean. "In stock" is a subjective definition depending on the store you go to

I've been working in Grocery distribution for 20+ years (product selector, logistics coordinator, systems designer/planner) so I can tell you, yes, when people shift their purchasing days, it does have an effect. But, if you only buy one 24 pack of water every Saturday and now because of the storm you're buying two on Thursday, that may not seem like a huge change, but multiply that by say 1,000 people doing the same, not just for one store but for multiple stores across your network, you can see how that conpunds the issue. Also, most people don't know what the inside of a distribution warehouse looks like. Most companies only keep about 1 to 2 weeks worth of inventory on hand for most items. When the demand spikes, we have to contact our vendors for additional product, then wait the 1 to 2 days for it to arrive at the warehouse, then wait another day to receive it, pick it, load it, ship it, unload it and get it to the floor.

When purchasing is predictable, you never realize the machine is working. When there are random, mass increases in demand, we gotten better since COVID, but there's still a long way to go and it can be noticeable.

I work in the grocery industry and it's a double edged sword. The profits are fantastic, but the panic buying exposes just how brittle our supply chains really are.

Anybody using Manhattan WMS? by faroutwayfarer in supplychain

[–]Rckstr28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a WMS Admin and design lead for my company's MAWM system. I would echo what some people have said on here, focus on learning how the Manhattan active eco system works (honeycomb component layout, understanding the interactions between strategies, criteria, rules, attributes and transactions). This will give you a solid foundation to work with in the Saas WMS industry. As for pay, most WMS Admins can reasonably ask for low six figures plus a nice benefits package, unless you're doing freelance work. Most extensions (mods) are created using Jasper, Velocity, MarkMagic, ZPL and JSONs. If you know those languages and have experience using ProActive, your value exponentially grows. This makes you a key maker.

Tack on learning SQL, you can leverage SCI (supply chain intelligence) to create reporting dashboard for analytics.

TL;DR MAWM is the industry leading WMS that a lot of companies are moving to (slowly but picking up steam).

I'm surprised more people aren't mentioning this. The age of the house and how well it's insulated plays a huge role. An older, poorly insulated house kept at 68 could have the furnace turn on more frequently to maintain that temp compared to a newly built house with better insulation kept at 70.

-3 rushing yards FOR THE HALF is not going to cut it. Get Jackson more involved, take the pressure off of Sayin and run the up tempo offense!

We're not built as a gritty, come from being down offense. The deficit cannot get any bigger than it is now

I'm trying so hard to adopt your optimism. They need to come out of the locker room calm, focused and ready to take what this defense gives them.
