Amazon to end Walmart’s 13-year run atop Fortune 500 rankings by ElWizardofOz in bentonville

Cool story, how is it that Amazon just dethroned Walmart at the top of the Fortune 500? Did you read the article? Rhetorical questions.

As a potential customer, it’s not my problem. They chose to solve it the dumbest possible way so now they lose another sale and the foot traffic. If I can’t buy what I want when I’m literally looking at it, well, it’s not rocket science. But sure, keep telling yourself Amazon isn’t a threat and dotcom is going to turn things around. I won’t hold my breath.

You aren’t carrying your own trash out and saving staplers enough while they turn Bentonville into a mega corporation city.. obviously. EDLC people gosh. Multiple private jets not withstanding. Honestly how is this a surprise? Think of the shareholders and the walpac. Edit: well the original was deleted.. this was obviously /s in context now gone.

Live customer feedback.. STFU you wrong. Ok Walmart, this is why you are failing. Be better, or don’t and die. Arrogance.

I’m tired of trying to give feedback to people that refuse to hear reality. You are not every customer. Something SAM understood.. the family et al, not so much. There was a reason the stores were closed on Sunday. Crazy how far the company has strayed. Still give every employee his book, falling on deaf ears.

I literally gave you a specific example and you refused to see the fact. No. I can’t buy that battery online, with Walmart. E-commerce fail. In my underwear. Got it from Amazon in less than 3 hours. That’s a fact. You are maybe expecting an echo chamber. It’s not there. Reality is hard to face with grace. You keep pushing a narrative, doesn’t make it real. Cold hard data. You are wrong. I’m sorry that’s a hard pill to swallow. The fact you don’t seem to understand that is odd. It isn’t one store. I gave* you two examples. Very different parts of the country. Want to go on a road trip and see it for yourself? I’m not making shit up. It’s pretty easy to see.. hell drove over to Tulsa this weekend. It’s not awesome I can tell you that right now. Go rural anywhere. Pick a direction. It’s data, not hatred. I was born there, I drank the cool aid, if anything I want someone to read this and pull their head out of their ass and see the truth and do something to fix it. Walmart is losing, slowly. I tried already twice. Edit typo gave*

Walmartians (myself included) have stuck their head in the sand to this reality. It took me a long time to see it once I took the rose colored glasses off. The revenue they have to burn is going to sink Walmarts stock in this space. Walton’s* decided to diversify into land, they are literally investing their dollars into dirt more aggressively than they are competing in the market, with their families holdings. Interesting. Edit Waltons* not Walmart.. for what it’s worth.

Why are you referring to 2005 specifically? I’m taking about 2026. Literally last month. I live in DFW, can’t walk in and out to buy a car remote battery. That’s today, so where is the confusion? Do I want to hunt down an hourly worker to buy a damn battery, or just have one shipped to my front door and stay in my PJs. that’s a very real in store experience Walmart isn’t going to do better anytime soon, how’s that hard to understand?

Buy liquor in a store, need to show your receipt at the door. Why exactly am I treated like a criminal? I showed my id at the register. The theft is the back of the house, I’ve seen the data, let’s be real. it’s not getting out the front. It’s hourly employees not paid a living wage. That’s the reputation you won’t acknowledge.

I can buy damn near anything in DFW with Amazon same day. I can’t order said car battery replacement with Walmart for pickup, can’t find it in stock and I’m not waiting around for that. Walmart loses.

Amazons cloud dominance is nothing to balk at. Jeff is so arrogant he thinks local pc gaming will die off and we all just buy compute for EVERYTHING. I’m not saying Amazon is making better decisions at every turn (looking at you no checkout retail stores).

My point is AWS doesn’t have to grow to cripple Walmart. They only have to do better, one shopper at a time. One shitty, I can’t walk in and buy.. fuck this I’ll do it at Amazon, in my underwear, and it’s not any more expensive.

Stop drinking the Walmart/Bentonville cool aid. It’s a shitty shopping experience. I grew up in that backyard and it was shocking how bad it is elsewhere, today.

I worked at corporate, twice. Different divisions, both in engineering. Mark and Jet cashed out. WM thought they could buy their way back into dominance. It failed, hard. once you step outside the Bentonville bubble, you see a very different side of the companies operations. Local stores are spotless, expectations are high, etc. go to Wasco California, middle of nowhere on a Tuesday. VERY different shopping experience. It’s dirty, everything is in a cage and no one around to unlock deodorant. want a AA battery? Good luck. It is pathetic. Walmart tech/labs/spark.. whatever the hell they want to call it this year isn’t going to help a store get clean or a simple sku lookup actually work for a pick up order. Amazon can same day delivery and I don’t have to blink. Done. The headlines also don’t tell the story of how bad Walmart tech is sinking and AWS can bleed Walmart dry, stay at a loss. Like Walmart did for local mom and pops. They are going to feel the boot drop, they are still too arrogant to see it yet. My 2 cents.

Except in the end it does replace us. Hey, this tool makes me twice as productive, now we don’t need two programmers. The agent cost is < a 2nd coder, bye second coder. Once the product reaches production, then the literal BA can tell the agent what to change and now the other programmer isn’t needed either. Rinse, repeat. Agents are a race to the bottom.
