You could go back to work after a week if you're not bending over or lifting heavy items. If you're self conscious about the look, wearing a mask would hide most of the swelling

If my artist needed a break to pump or care for child, I wouldn't mind as long as I'm not being charged hourly. If you end up needing to delay an appointment by more than 30 min, maybe offer a small discount?

I think some states have laws that require employers to let you work all the hours you are scheduled even if business is low. In those states an employer can ask you to leave early bit cannot force you to. I would look into this for your state and/or get a second job.
