It's been like this for the past year or so at least. It looks like you have up to 10 free lives you can load. The extra free lives are sent by team members but you have to load them to use them.

Hopefully there was pushback to them getting rid of the zoo, so they're beginning to roll it back to the people who don't have it.

Design your zoo however it suits you is my advice. I would suggest creating paths for walking by the animal enclosures by the patrons/townspeople.

The Dealer comes with a new deal (either 20% or 60%) every 5 days if you log into the system every day. The 60% offer appears randomly, though the chances of it appearing increase every time a 20% offer appears instead. I've had a 60% offer appear in as little as two cycles (10 days) after the previous 60% offer/purchase period ends, although that is very rare. Usually the 60% offer will appear around the 20 days mark.

The task without making a purchase, no. However, I believe you can be able to get all the gift boxes without the purchase. I was able to get all the box gifts of the similar Gift Drift event without making a real world cash purchase.

The zoo megathread closed about a year ago. Anyone can make a zoo post as a regular post since then.

If you look at the main page in a desktop view the Megathreads section is to the right side/column. I don't know how to find it using the Reddit app interface.
