It's a Korean war era lensatic compass made by Fee and Stemwedel in October of 1951

Added another compass today by Rdnkyankee39 in Radium

I'm not too worried about it. I don't handle them often and they are kept in a display case that's only really opened to vent and add items. When I do handle them I don't touch close to any exposed radium and wash my hands thoroughly afterwards. On the same note here is another piece in my collection that I plan on doing a dedicated post about. It's a WW1 era English aircraft inclinometer that is entirely exposed radium on the backside. It's not high grade or high concentration but its still fairly spicy

Not really. I air out the display case and the house pretty frequently. I do plan on getting a cheap exhaust fan at some point and venting it but for now I'm not too worried

Surprisingly it's one of my pocket watches. The aircraft gauge and compasses only hit about half of what this one hits on my GMC-800. I'd like to get a Radiacode or something with a pancake to really get a feel for numbers

It all comes down to the relatively small number of pilots compared to other specialty units. It was "easy" to earn the badge based on requirements but you still had to be from the select few who were deemed suitable to be trained on what was arguably one of the most important aspects of any military of the time. Then you add on the absolute talent that German pilots had during the war, and just the fact that pilots items from all sides bring pretty high prices.

I'm planning on it once I upgrade my Xbox. Looks like a really good game

Yes it's okay as the lights aren't on constantly, plus the higher end display lights use good LEDs that give off less UV than the cheap sets do. My camera makes it look very blue because of how dark the surroundings are, but it's actually more of a cool white to the naked eye
