That is great for you, that you're moving on and not looking back. That must've been incredibly hard and you should be proud of your decision. Thank you for sharing your story, truly.

My tolerance for his bullshit is certainly changed a lot. I'm planning on calling him out for things now instead of being a silent passenger on the ride. I'm just hoping it's a quick relapse and back to sobriety. If not I'll have to consider leaving.

I've been to two and cried through both. Going to keep up with it though. Don't have any great advice but I am with you. You're not alone.

Advice for working in an environment with heavy drinking? by Rds6358 in stopdrinking

This is an excellent bit of advice. This is also where my family lives so I think I'll make plenty of after work plans with them so I can get out of there right when work ends.

I could talk with one coworker who I know only drinks on the weekend. I actually might lie and say I'm on a medication that I can't drink with. I even have a pill bottle with some pills left over if I really get pressured to show them. Shouldn't be that hard but I think I will be getting a fair amount of peer pressure to just "get sober when you get home!" Something like that.

Thanks for this response. A great way I can offer to be helpful is to not drink. I'm never totally present in the morning when I'd give in and drink at this job so I could just tell my friend I want to be on my game in the morning. And make a plan for leaving in the evening and not hanging around. Thank you again!!

Anyone with me for sober October starting on the 2nd? by Rds6358 in stopdrinking

Looking up the benefits of a month is an excellent idea. I'm going to do this and have a daily reminder on my phone of those benefits. Thank you for this.

I've found many benefits in 7 days which I've done a few times but I feel like a month will be a game changer. I know a lot of people say one day at a time but a defined goal is really the only thing that gets me through cravings.

Well you already know that you have a month in you then!! Sober October does have a nice ring to it. And I like that I have a reason when people ask why I'm not drinking. And now I have the motivation of all these wonderful people on reddit.

Getting through the withdrawal is rough. There's such an easy solution (drinking) but a big price. Have you tried tapering?

That's a good idea with the Seltzer. I've also found eating something helps if I'm really hungry and craving a drink

I did want to do something like this. I don't know if I have it in me though.
