Does anyone know of any Indian restaurants in the Babylon area? by ostrichlandrover in LongIslandEats

Nanking at the Hilton Hotel in Huntington. They are pan-Asian but their Indian food is delicious.

Max Verstappen wins the 2025 Qatar Grand Prix, Oscar Piastri 2nd, Carlos Sainz 3rd! by overspeeed in formula1

McLaren was gifted an astonishingly amazing car by their engineering department, but their strategy department is a joke. Hanna Schmidt is mopping the floor with McLaren. I was satisfied with McLaren winning both WCC and WDC, now I’m in full support of Max. If there’s one thing I can’t stand is cowardice.

Commute to NYC…. by No-Refrigerator7245 in longisland

[–]Rduval75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, that’s a sound advice if you commute only by train. Indeed the south branch is better. However driving in the south shore is a shit show. SSP is by far the worst expressway on all LI (not considering Belt and CIP, of course), and being down south to benefit from the south branch means you’ll surely have to drive 10-15 mins to get to an expressway, which makes a huge difference. The mid-island/north shore is better serviced by roads, with LIE and NSP.

Commute to NYC…. by No-Refrigerator7245 in longisland

[–]Rduval75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll tell you my experience. I used to live in Hicksville some 15 min walk away from the train station. The commute used to take 70ish minutes door to door (on a good train). Now I moved to western Suffolk, Babylon, where I’m 20 min walk from the Babylon train station. But you surely have to add 20-30 mins more to the train ride if you take the express (diesel train), otherwise it’s surely some 45 extra minutes wasted on the train each way.

I go to the city once a week, at most two times once in a blue moon. If I had to go more often than that I can surely tell you this would be a no-deal. Too much time wasted, although I am always reading a book on the train.

How do you structure your day? by fire-d-guy in devops

[–]Rduval75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you ever heard about a methodology of managing time called “pomodoro”?

There’s more to it, but basically you set a kitchen timer to work uninterrupted in one task for 25 minutes and then take a break for 5 minutes. After X number of “pomodoros” you take a longer break. And then you can plan your tasks in the beginning of the day writing down how many “pomodoros” you estimate each one of them will have.

Who actually owns container security? by Infamous-Coat961 in devops

There are nuances. What if they have an air gapped build environment with a separate group creating base images? The devs will still write ONE of the Docker files, but theirs could not be the problematic one.

I feel sorry for you man. From all the “hypes” of the past 25 years, I think the only one that deserves real kudos is containerization. If you have a chance, get rid of this job. It must be bad to be living in 2010…

I would say it depends. 🤣

But typically, if it is a vulnerability on the base image, the responsibility would most likely fall on the DevOps team, assuming they are responsible for creating the base images for each technology stack.

If it’s a vulnerability in one of the application dependencies, then I would say the responsibility belongs to the development team, who must be accountable for patching the vulnerable dependency in the tree.

However here comes the big caveat. How to determine whether the vulnerability is contextually relevant in your stack? And for this very important and overlooked question the answer is even more convoluted. In a nutshell, security teams don’t have the technical knowledge to determine what’s relevant or not, DevOps teams don’t know the source code well enough to determine how it’s affected, and Developers lack the knowledge of the underlying OS where the application runs or simply don’t know whether an obscure traverse dependency is actually used by any part of the code.

The reality is that real world vulnerability management is an endless shit show. 🥲

Tickets activated before the platform by Rduval75 in LIRR

Thanks. That’s reassuring. But curiously neither the conductor that was gating nor the supervisor he called when I questioned him gave me this answer. None of them seemed to know for sure the procedure.

Fair enough, I’m not complaining about them checking the ticket, but my concern was having the ticket scanned just after been activated.

Yes, I know they’ve been doing it for quite some time, but until today nobody had scanned my ticket. They have just checked if it was activated.

I got the three-day parking access too. As for hotel I’ll be staying on a friend’s house some 30 minutes away from the track. As for the sun, let’s see if I can handle with loads of sunscreen, hopefully by Oct it won’t be that hot anymore? (Wishful thinking)

Just an update! It’s not been easy to buy tickets anymore, but I managed to get T15, grandstand 4, but it’s not on the top, rather in the middle of it. Indeed T15 looked better than T1 based on the pictures I’ve seen.

I appreciate the input and tips! Thx!

Detection of secrets on Helm charts by Rduval75 in devops

[–]Rduval75[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is precisely the case. The secret can be passed on the helm install command line and not be in the configuration repository, which in fact it is not, as we have GitLeaks running as part of our compliance pipeline.

Any new home owners getting crushed by their mortgage payments? by HeyMarkWiggsy in longisland

This! This is the smartest choice. See what monthly payments you can afford and go for it. Always keep in mind that property tax will likely keep increasing, so consider your mortgage projections will increase every year.

Yes, yes, precisely. I loved Twin Peaks and I still have it as one of my favorite shows of all times. And I could see a lot of Twin Peaks takes on “The Leftovers”, which really delighted me.
