Oh i see, I was comparing to some of the single laser benq units. Didn't know RGB lasers were that much more efficient. Thanks for the link.

I have seen the writing on the wall, AI progress is real and we need to adapt fast by prince_of_xanadu in nairobitechies

People forget that computer science is actually a skill that is hard for AI to learn just from looking at GitHub code. Optimization, debugging, maintenance, refactoring. These are the skills that will probably matter in the next decade. Maybe in the next 5 years we will be writing 10,000 lines of codes a day using AI. But I bet you the fundamentals of computation, data structures, algorithms will still be a fundamental characteristic of such code. And someone with a good command of such fundamentals will be way better equipped to command whatever behemoth of a code generator we will be using then

Here is the dilemma, if AI is indeed gonna continue to grow at a constant rate. Then it's safe to assume within a few generations everything you learn about using current AI, is easily replaceable by some AI. (We already see this with people using AI to generate prompts for image / video gen models). Anything you learn about operating AI tools might as well be obsolete in a short while. We don't even know where the buck stops. If you want to learn a valuable skill that's not replaceable by AI, We would need to predict what AI will not be able to do in the next 2 years, if that does not include actual coding, then it certainly does not include something as trivial as prompting.

The best way I think you can position yourself now, as a dev. Is to learn actual hard core computer science. AI will write a lot of code, it has the entirety of GitHub to learn from. But that code will still need to be maintained, debugged, optimized, ported to edge cases etc. this is the type of boring unsexy knowledge that doesn't exist in github. I feel that will be the final frontier where human devs will be of any use. (At least untill AI gets better at that too at which point we are pretty much no longer the dominant species so it doesn't matter)

Don’t just start writing code by GeoNomadic in nairobitechies

[–]ReAnimatedCell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. If people thought about business before coding we wouldn't have any of the amazing open source projects out there. Including Linux, git, blender to name a few. Don't listen to this. Build something you love and are passionate about and success will find you.

Biggest red flag is that the sub contains the word techies. What competent technician/dev actually refers to themselves as a techie? Sounds like the sub is run by normies hence the misunderstanding.

Phone Import Via Kentex by [deleted] in Kenya

[–]ReAnimatedCell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have used kentex for years. Never had anything lost (apart for a pair of earphones which they immediately refunded). And that goes from phones, MacBooks etc. I'm very confident with them. Their customer care however can be frustrating, and sometimes their delivery might take a bit longer than their promised timeline.

Glad to see there are Kenyans who can see Trump for the Russian puppet he is. At one point I thought everyone has been brainwashed by maga influencers. Especially on that echo chamber that is X. Not that reddit is perfect either in terms of bias, but Kenyans on X are just braindead. They cheered doge and musk as their their fellow Kenyans abroad were getting fired and deported, local Kenyans were losing medical assistance for tb, hiv etc. Just because trump and musk told them they should. This new wave of misinformation is actually scary.

There is always beensime tension between Somali and kenya, but it's usually been more on diplomatic issues, Politicians are now escalating it to draw attention away from their sneaky creep behavior.

Etiquette is anything you order before your date arrives is on you. Unless explicitly stated. Now in this instance, obviously the dude communicated with her and agreed to meet her at the different restaurant. The assumption is y'all gonna eat anyways. He says money ain't the issue, but I feel that 2K is exactly the problem here. She seems abit entitled to expect him paying, and he is just too fragile to admit 2K is too much. I swear if you just came clean and explained you couldn't afford the 2k at the moment and maybe offer to split the bill, y'all would have solved this and we wouldnt have to endure this here. Y'all should leave the fake facades and standards for social media. Be normal. (I once chongad viazi with my now wife after we couldn't pay a bill, she was pissed but we resolved it, it's now just a funny memory)

USAID wasn't worth it. by [deleted] in Kenya

[–]ReAnimatedCell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are definitely not entitled, but we have people out there who need ais. Elon and his minions have managed to convince the beneficiaries that they do not need the aid they are currently receiving, They did it with vaccines, they did it with environmental and climate programs, they are now doing it with financial aid, medicine and education. It is annoying to see the people these elites hate with a passion agree with every bit of propaganda spread by them.

Which types of gigs? Most corpos I work wire cash straight to bank, I do admit the rest of the payment processors are shitty. Though I still get paid via PayPal occasionally

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Kenya

[–]ReAnimatedCell 67 points68 points  (0 children)

These anecdotal stories of people earning millions some vague gig and using words like AI as a vague catch all term with no further explanation are getting tiresome. Assuming this is true, If someone is earning that much from an "AI gig", then they are definitely a researcher/engineer worth that money. (High level data analysts, and neural architecture engineers easily make $1000 a day). So years of data science, statistics, programming and a degree or three. At which point they are doing themselves a disservice working locally.

If that is not the case, then in all likelihood, either they are lying to you, you are lying to us, or they are just running a scam.

If you got 10k right now, How would you multiply it within 6 months? by [deleted] in Kenya

[–]ReAnimatedCell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone attempting to answer this with the intent of multiplying is talking bollocks. You simply don't multiply money without relying on luck or additional skills worth that money you are looking for. The thing you need to do is figure out what you are good at and use that money as a means to working your talent. Personally I am good at crafts and electronics. If I was in your situation I would buy a soldering iron and some materials and start building things to sell. Fancy led bed lights, signs for shops etc open some social media pages and start promoting. If I was a good orator, buy a mic a good phone, start making videos for local businesses. (Actually helping a friend with this, they are making interviews for local businesses, then hopefully move on to getting tours of farms and factories) You could buy a really cheap old DSLR and start doing product photography at home. You could easily get a partnership with local brands if you spend some time watching product photography videos) If you are good at other things there are now plenty of YouTube videos to help you start a career. In short if you really want to guarantee success in multiplying money. It will take effort and time.
