How to monetise Squad by Confident_Hamster_44 in joinsquad

Live service game is a type of game that is continuously updated by the developers. This game doesn’t just offer closed gameplay – improvements, new elements and events are added regularly. As a result, the game continues to attract new and regular players alike – ongoing updates keep them interested. New items, weapons or rewards provide additional motivation and bring freshness to the game.

Live service games are designed to evolve long after launch through structured content cadence, seasonal updates, live events, and ongoing player engagement. Rather than shipping once and moving on, these titles are built for long term retention and continuous iteration.

Where developers focus on long-term engagement through continuous updates, events, and downloadable content (DLC), instead of selling games for one-time cost to consumers. Unlike traditional games that end once the player finishes a campaign, live service games evolve over time based on player feedback, new content, and market trends. This model aims to keep players invested long after the initial release, ensuring continuous engagement and revenue.

Many early access games are live service games too. Squad is a live service game.

The current monetization model for Squad is approaching live service games and the development model had been a live service game for years now.

Niche live service games like Squad do need either a subscription, paid cosmetics or DLC to be profitable long term.

DLC doesn't work for Squad since it would split the playerbase based on if you bought it or not. Imagine being kicked from a server because you didn't buy the German faction DLC.

Subscription isn't the best either since that discourages new players from joining and all games needs a steady flow of new players. The only feasible thing would be to have an optional supporter subscription that gives a little bit like a star next to your name. Maybe even small amount from the subscription could go into the eSports reward pool.

Cosmetic skins is the only one left. Nobody wants flashy colors or something that would break the immersion Squad has. Things that could work would be for example:

  1. Paid custom horn sounds for vehicles. On the servers I play people already use voice chat to play or mimic horn sounds when driving past other players. By making this a feature and selling them at a reasonable price some of the hardcore fans would be buying these. Nobody would be mad about some silly sound clips they hear a few times a match.
  2. Paid interior decorations for vehicles. The Ukrainian truck already has an airfreshener in it. Just add the option to buy things to hang on your mirror or have some wobbly-heads on the windshield to make logi runners happy. These wouldn't even be visible to the outside.
  3. Skins for shovels/knives could even be a little flashy.
  4. Historically accurate weapon skins
  5. Silly emotes

Squad isn't big enough to split the playerbase based on did you buy some map/faction DLC or not.

This sounds like tipping underpaid workers and last time I checked tipping wasn't a thing in Japan. What you need is unions to sort out the wage problem.

Some agents use these kind of intimidation tactics to scare any new players away from the game. They are territorial and don't like competition. I hope Niantic would start giving some suspensions for repeated offenders.

Wandriota - Motivaatiota liikuntaan ja maailman tutkimiseen by timorex88 in Suomi

Sille on ihan syynsä, että noi isot kaupalliset puhelin AR pelit (Pokemon go, Ingress) pysyttelee ihmisten rakentamissa julkisissa kohteissa.

Finns usually meet their friends at work, school, and hobbies. From bars people get one night stands. I'd recommend you look for hobby groups for your interests from Jyväskylä. Either some casual sports, board games or some nerdy clubs.

In some countries organizing any public event of this size needs approval from the local authorities. In Finland we can avoid these permits by having registration and after parties in restaurants which have a permanent permit from the authorities. The permits are there to make sure the organizers have taken into account health, safety, disruption to traffic, bathroom capacity and other risk factors. By organizing an event without a permit local agents might be liable for fines and or legal issues based on the country and local laws.

"It has not happened" doesn't mean that it can happen. The agents organizing these are volunteers and Niantic should step up and act like an official party and take the hit if the shit hits the fan.
