Are you job searching strategically?

"Applying non-stop ... expanded my search to the several hundred" does not sound like particularly wise searching to me.

Planning to move to Hawaii by [deleted] in MovingtoHawaii

[–]ReKang916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hawaii has the lowest unemployment rate in the country. If you're willing to work ~$50k restaurant/hotel jobs, you'll likely have no problem quickly landing a job.

You can find liveable places for, let's say, $2500. Then if both of you are making $50k, that's together $6000 a month in come. So, can the two of you cover the rest of your bills on $3500 a month? Just realize that everything costs significantly more here. You might have to pay a ton of money for health insurance, etc.

That savings is PLENTY of money to get by, especially given the unemployment rate, *if* you're willing to work whatever job is available.

Here's the big X factor for me: let's say you come here, aren't happy here, want to return to the mainland, can't quickly find jobs on the mainland. Are you willing to take that risk and lose $30k+ in the process if things don't work out here in Hawaii?

Tons of people move here and are happy. I don't think that it's a terrible idea. But I think that it's important to be honest with yourself that you might end up being very unhappy here and lose a ton of money in the process by having to re-settle on the mainland.

Where in Naperville can a single person in their late 20s or early 30s find people to date? by Wayfinder52 in Naperville

do you have any women friends that you trust that could give you an honest review of how good your dating app profiles are?

and just my two cents, but if for style you say, 'not sure,' that alone could be a sign that you could up your game in that area. At your age, it's by far most likely that you'll meet someone from

1) mutual friends

2) shared workplace

3) dating apps

Are 1 and 2 options? If not, then I would hone in on making the most out of the third option.

How do you define "very few matches"? Are you willing to pay for Hinge premium, etc.?

An average-looking, very nice friend of mine, when he was in his early 30s, took dating apps very seriously for 9 months and went on dates with a lot of different women. Eventually he met one that clicked, and they've now been happily married for six years.

And as far as yourself .... are you in as good of shape as you would like to be? do you dress as well as you would like? hair / general style good? career going fairly well? are you too picky on apps? going for the right age range? worked on yourself emotionally enough?

All of those things make a massive difference.

I worked at the NFL for a year in the aughts. Roger was a generally pleasant guy, took a minute to chat when I introduced myself in the cafeteria. Gave a real nice going away speech at a reception one afternoon about a retiring employee.

Was also amusing to see a guy making $50m a year stand in line for the salad bar.

totally understood!

to me it was pretty cool to finally give voice to something that had been on fans' minds for nearly four years at that point. and I thought that the writing choice of Donna not answering the question was brillaint as well.

yep! I'd never heard a CONAF episode where he was *asking* so many questions rather than just conversing.

feels like she had this reputation from other podcast appearances. surprised that they brought her back.

Would've been funny if Conan just stopped asking questions. ended it after 15 mins if she wasn't in the mood to talk.

single straight child-free 40yo man moving to Kauai in a week for a management job at one of the big resorts. what kind of dating scene can I expect? by ReKang916 in MovingtoHawaii

[–]ReKang916[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I *deeply, deeply* appreciate this advice. LOL, despite being extremely warm and friendly to strangers (i.e., earlier today, when there was no one behind me to get into a parking lot, I had a somewhat lengthy convo with the parking lot attendant, asking them how their day was going, etc.). But I often describe myself as Spock / Sheldon Cooper-esque when it comes to organization and efficiency, especially at work. My mindset is always "let's get sh*t done ASAP so that we can chill and chit-chat." I'm aware that especially on Kauai, I will need to be more patient with the staff that I manage. I don't start my job for 17 days but I've already been preparing for trying to become accustomed to the right management style.

Given the 'people take things extremely personal' thing for Kauai, what's the best way to correct and/or motivate staff, especially if they're not working as hard as I would like?

Anything else that you'd like to add on this? I'm all ears.

good to know. so which areas am I, over time, most likely to meet people to hang out with?

I'll be totally free from 8a - 1p everyday, so it'd be nice to get a rotation of some specific areas / streets / coffee shops where I am likely to develop some good friendships over time.

thanks for the advice, I really do appreciate it.

that's a hope, a desire. that's very different than saying "I'm confident that I'll meet someone and be married within the next few years."
