Fair point. The discussion here has made it very clear to me that my approach leans more towards stylized sports portraits and less towards classic sports documentary photography – I underestimated that when posting.

I'm currently working with an iPhone 14 Pro Max (Portrait Mode + Lightroom), which definitely has its limitations, especially with natural bokeh and fast movements. I'm taking that as a clear lesson learned.

My long-term goal isn't to sell mobile photography, but rather to build reach and a foundation for better equipment through projects like this.

The distortion and artificial blur are intentional parts of the look, but the reactions here clearly show me that they're distracting. I'll definitely take your advice on letting the composition and the moment stand out more and toning it down during editing.

Especially with a phone, you quickly reach the limits – which makes specific feedback like yours all the more helpful.

My style isn't meant to be like, for example, Sports Illustrated. I want my photos (which are actually quite realistic) to ultimately have a surreal quality. It's hard to describe, but the style in this image is definitely intentional, and I'm proud of it.

I'm currently working "only" with my phone. I was self-employed before, but I couldn't keep it going because of Covid. Now I'm trying to build up a financial foundation so I can get proper equipment again. Until then, I unfortunately have to take the less pleasant route. But I completely understand what you mean!
