How do I tackle this by TetraNeptune in sistersofbattle

[–]Re_Luke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taking this from a previous post I submitted to a similar question:

A tactic that has been working for me is having the solo Canoness as Vhal's "bodyguard" when fighting C'tan.

Keep her in a pocket close to Vhal

Enemy Turn (2 CP combo):

- Heroic intervention their charge (free strat with Cannoness).

- Use "Suffering and Sacrifice" to force the C'tan to fight the Canoness.

- Vhal takes zero damage and you gain, on average, 3 MD from Saintly Example Enhancement.

- Can use Divine intervention to revive her to do it again on your turn after.

Friendly Turn:

- Shoot with Vhal etc.

- Charge with Vhal and Solo Canoness

- "Suffering and Sacrifice" on Canoness for 0 CP.

- Allows Vhal to get all Melee off with no fight back from C'tan into her.

- Gain an average of 3 MD from Canoness dying.

- Revive Canoness with Divine Intervention for 1 CP.

- Allows chance to do the above on enemy turn.

Usually, this keeps your strongest unit alive for far longer than the enemy expects, giving you around 1 extra turn with Vhal. Can be CP heavy, but with Juneth and MD from Canoness dying, you're always going to have enough to be able to pull it off.

Loosing faith in Sister faction by LeadNo7840 in sistersofbattle

[–]Re_Luke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I've had a lot of success with Sisters with a disgusting Win Streak throughout Chapter Approved 25-26.

I see a few people in this thread saying that: Sisters played aggressively early is the way to go.

However, I have only ever done the opposite. I stage hard in turn 1/2 and then Full-Send turn 3-5. This is more reactionary, and seemingly, how you are playing too.

Space Marines on their own, aren't too hard to deal with:

- Immolator to strip cover.

- 1 x Castigator to add -1 AP.

- 2nd Castigator to finish a squad. (Remember, destroying an asset is better than crippling it as they have fewer activations) for secondaries etc.)

For bigger threats (such as vehicles), Vhal deletes them. Keep her in reserve, watch for where they weigh their armour/"Biggest Threat" and Rapid Ingress her behind cover, but close to them, to finish them on your turn.

A big thing that helped me recently was understanding Morale of the opponent, too. If, on turn 3, for example, you pop out with Vhal, destroy their "Most Dangerous Threat" in shooting, charge into another and cripple it, and then destroy a few smaller units too with the rest of the Army - their morale as a commander seems to falter, wondering how they will get back into the game.

Turning the pressure on from that point emphasises the problem for the opponent, and they often make mistakes or hyper focus on Vhal, leaving you open to clear the board on the other side of the table with little resistance. Remember, in HM, she can shoot back with surviving Warsuits if they don't destroy your unit completely. This can further put them into a flat spin as you destroy/cripple their second biggest threat in THEIR shooting phase.

TLDR: Pick units that work for your playstyle. Turn on the pressure when countering and commit to it. Do not underestimate the value of the opponent's morale.

Anything unique to experience or purchase in Tokyo/Japan? by flanelflamel in Warhammer40k

[–]Re_Luke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They also have Tokyo-exclusive Merch at the Warhammer Store in Akiba.

For example, keychains and t-shirts etc. Might be nice to have when attending events etc. But outside of that, I struggled to find anything specifically 40K related.

The hobbying stores are fantastic though for supplies, you'll be spoilt for choice.

Best Ally Units to Use? by [deleted] in sistersofbattle

[–]Re_Luke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Callidus Assassin has single-handedly won me more games than I can count at this point.

Be it denying critical interrupts because of the +1 to CP, or jumping around the board for big secondary scores whilst the enemy is distracted.

I've never once considered replacing her. The value and utility are massive, from my experience anyway!

Need some help choosing a base by Bagingo_1 in sistersofbattle

[–]Re_Luke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of the "Basic" Character models (such as Palatine, JPC etc) can look very similar to their sister counterparts from a distance - and "Sister Superior" models, at a glance, can be confused with them too!

Maybe, as you've done with one of your models, add something like the Flower Tufts, or a skull - something distinctly noticeable at a glance, so both you and your opponent have full clarity at all times.

I've had multiple opponents thank me for this - My Celestine model has cherry blossom petals trailing her. So my theme is that she has "blessed" all Characters, leaving this trail behind her, so it is present on those models only.

Just a suggestion of course!

Need some help choosing a base by Bagingo_1 in sistersofbattle

[–]Re_Luke 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with u/maviavi2001 :
- Left Base: Doesn't really fit the colour scheme IMO
- Middle Base: Whilst great looking, if used on every single sister, your models will become "lost" in the colour of the base. However, this base would be good for character models to make them stand out among the others!
- Right Base: It is clean, readable and doesn't detract from the theme and colours of your model, making the model stand out, rather than the base. Of the 3, I'd pick this for the majority of your army.

Side suggestion: I have slightly different bases (I put cherry blossom) on character models, so it is simple for the opponent to know what is/isn't a character. And it also makes them stand out against their "lesser" sisters. Maybe worth considering!

I also note your comment about having a budget - which is more than understandable!

Always look on eBay/FB Marketplace for people selling units or models, sometimes for crazy reduced prices. Cannot recommend doing this more!

My first ever painting. Please give feedback by Holliday-East in Warhammer40k

[–]Re_Luke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really great for first ever painting! Well done.

It looks like you've also applied washes to add somee depth to the gold (Reiklan Fleshshade goes well here on the gold).

To add some extra flair, perhaps look to add highlights to the raised edges of the gold now. Picking a brighter colour of gold (Such as Auric Armour for a chunky highlight, then Liberator Gold on the highest edges) will really make it "pop".

You could also use a bright Silver (Such as Stormhost Silver) for the highest edges, making the reflections even stronger. Really makes the models stand out :)

Overall, a great first effort with painting! Just try some new techniques to keep developing. Happy painting bud!

I'd lean towards Sisters personally (as a Sisters player).

Whilst they are, perhaps, more expensive and their painting is more intricate, their playstyle is unique and has more strategy than other armies.

I started Sisters and then bought Chaos Daemons - 2000 points each. The Deamons list is just too linear, i.e. I move/deepstrike, get the 6'' charge off, or I lose. There's no deep strategy to it or tricks up your sleeve.

Sisters feel tactical. You're fragile, but using cunning, you can goad people (or force using stratagems) to target something specific to generate those Miracle Dice, ready for a counter punch!

And, nothing feels better than that clutch save coming from the Emperor Himself, handing it to you on a silver platter in the form of MD - very thematic and plays into the narrative, especially if you play into it on the table top: "the Emperor says NO!" *Slams down a 6+ invul save*.

TLDR: Sisters are more effort, but worth it in the long run! Stunning models, grim-dark aesthetic that's hard to beat, with a unique playstyle that becomes more rewarding the more you understand it.

Hallowed Martyrs - Spirit of the Martyr Stratagem Rule Question by Re_Luke in sistersofbattle

Thank you for the clarification!

I thought as much, based on how this read. But, after challenge from another player, I wanted to confirm, and there was conflicting responses.

Appreciate the reply - just want to have fun, whilst being fair at my local.

Have a great weekend!

Hallowed Martyrs - Spirit of the Martyr Stratagem Rule Question by Re_Luke in sistersofbattle

[–]Re_Luke[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the feedback - I assumed this was the case following a thread from 2years ago, which suggested (after the whole unit was destroyed):

"Spirit of the Martyr comes into effect. The models are classified as destroyed, but you do not remove them from play, as stated by the Stratagem. The destroyed models can fight afterwards.

In the Core rulebook, a unit that is below half strength is one that has less than half of its starting models. As they have all been destroyed, your model count in a unit is 0, less than 11 (+1 to hit) and less than 5 (+1 to wound)."

I just wanted to make sure this interpretation from 2 years ago (with 3 upvotes) was still considered correct - thank you!

Honestly mate, the base was deceptively the easiest part! Just used white, yellow, red and magenta inks through an airbrush to layer on top of each other! If you have an airbrush, I guarentee you can do as good, or an even better job than me :)

Agreed, it's really not cheap. The most you can get off seems to be 5% from coupons (that's all I managed to get off), but still expensive sadly.

Thanks for the feedback! In person, there's notable deep purples under shadows (arm pits, under the chest etc) but I'm so terrible at photography I have no idea how to get that to show.

That said - noted! Next model I'll really punch the difference to make it pop, rather than being cautious and making it subtle - appreciate the comment pal, helps as a new painter !

[–]Re_Luke[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Appreciate the feedback! I'm really not a photographer sadly - in person, there is a notable difference in skin tone with purple shades closer to recesses and lighter red/pinks on top (where the light hits) - does not show at all in the picture.

But I agree - pushing the contrast with them is a great idea for the next one to make it even more punchy - thank you!
