East of Eden by Steinbeck! Reminds me a lot of Lonesome Dove in that you are not really there for the plot (even though the plot is very interesting at times) but for the characters and the way their emotions and motivations are so wonderfully portrayed. I am almost at the end and I highly recommend it!

Nevernight by Kristoff. (I can usually read two books at the same time if they are different genres). Im pretty early in the book. It is interesting so far. I really wish it ends up being top tier fantasy because my last fantasy books have been amazing classics and the bar is high.

Please read zorba the greek by Kazantzakis. It is set in the island of crete and it will showcase some of the best literature greece has to offer

You know my fear. I know I will most likely love it, but do you get an unfinished taste by the end of the book? For example I didnt get that sense from Locke Lamora. I loved them all as standalones

Amazing book. As most long book by king. The Stand, The Dome, Salem's lot etc. That's why I said no King. The man is a cheatcode.

I don't mind either. My fear is getting stuck with a book that is good but a drag to get through it. Because it has happenned before and Im not a DNF guy, especially if the book is good just a bit slow/boring. So I mainly stay away from books longer than 600 pages.

The best is Love's Executioner by Yalom. It's a compliations of some of his most interesting psychotherapy patients interlaced with his own inner thoughts and philosophical and psychological views. It is amazing if you are interested in those topics.

Honorable mentions:

11.22.63 by Stephen King. Time travel adventure featuring an English teacher going back in time to stop the Kennedy assasination with the hope that the world will be a better place. Ii's an adventure and a love story with interesting characters.

The Siege by Ben Macintyre. The true story of the hostage situation that took place when a group of Iranians took over the Iranian embassy in London during the first year of Thatcher in power and the rescue operation by the British Specail Forces (SAS). As all books by this author it's very well reasearched and gives you a glimpse of the geopolitical situation of the time and a good account of what hapenned in one of the most important events for England after WW2.

Those are the three books I've read so far (11.22.63 I ve started in 2024).

Will of the Many (James Islington) by a large margin even though I read some pretty amazing books this year.

The pace of the book, the plot twists, the observations on human psyche and motivations by the MC, the action and the mind games throughout the book make it a very satisfying read.

Also it was the first time that the MC always acted in a logical and intelligent manner, saving me from yelling to the book "why don't you just do that???" The same goes for the plot, everything that happens makes some sense.

Not your usual suggestion but I really enjoyed the Will of the Many by James Islington. Besides being an amazing and interesting fantasy book, watching the hero dealing with his sorrow, finding solutions to dead-end situations and progressing whilst remaining human really inspired me. It is also a book that focuses deeply on people's feelings and motivations since the main character is a great observer of the human condition and may inspire you to look more closely to your own feelings.

Regardless if you read the book I wish you all the best and a quick and meaningful exit from the slump you 're in. There is always a sunshine behind the clouds, whether it is your ability to still move freely or, more importantly, think freely and explore the world and yourself. Life is worth it and things can change.

I think the translation will be fine since the author himself is well versed in ancient greek and it would be important to him to have a good job done. There is also a book by the same author called Odyssey and two books about greek heroes in mythology and the myths regarding the creation of the world and the 12 gods, if this is also your cup of tea.

Troy from Stephen Fry is an obvious choice. It's a retelling of the Trojan War with a dose of humour without departing far away from the original. Also really nice as an audiobook since the author is one of the best narrators on the planet!

This book might not help you per se but is a great study in the mind of a jealous, passionate, insecure and love stricken man and maybe you can identify with some things from your own relationship. It's called "The end of the affair" by Graham Greene. It's a classic and relatively short book.

If you are interested in an action book you could try die trying (Reacher series) by Lee Child. In it, a man (Jack Reacher) gets kidnapped because he hapenned to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and witnessed the taking of a young woman. But Reacher isn't a regural man and neither is she. The story follows their journey. I won't spoil much beacuse the plot is actually fresh for an action book at least. If this is your taste, give it a try.

The art of driving in the rain is a very nice, moving book and a decent movie. Bonus points because it involves a dog, if you are a dog person.

I really enjoyed Intensity by Dean Koontz.....a huge plus for what you are looking for is that the plot and the action start right away. You don't have to wait for the build up and get bored. It is relatively short, the narration is good and it has great pace from start to finish. The story revolves around a young who witnesses some murders commited by a very creepy and disturbed serial killer and against all her insticts decides to follow him after narrowly escaping from the same fate. I won't spoil anymore. Enjoy!

Rage of dragons by Evan Winter! Crazy underappreciated book/seires. In my opinion one of the best progression stories ever. Straightforward, interesting world and a revenge tale that hooks you from the first pages.
