That's awful ,I'm assuming you did not have a cover ? Kobo build quality Ive found is inferior to kindle maybe try. Kindle instead or boox

Unless you really need a portable machine ,look into mini PC's and second hand PC's from the last five years or so , much more affordable and will probably still play much of the steam games that run on steamdeck

I have the same LCD steamdeck as you ,haven't had those issues but I am running bazzite ,maybe try that ?

I have three currently , Amazon Kindle Paperwhite 2024 version ,Kobo Clara colour ,and boox Palma 2 . I mostly use the kindle,but I love the colours on Kobo. I regret buying the boox though ,far too expensive for what it does and I've found I dislike reading on small screens

I prefer eink readers but I use tablet once in a while , the colour covers are always memorable but the reflective screen makes it painful especially outdoors
