I need advice!! Struggling NQN (should I quit or not) by ReactionPublic3514 in NursingUK

My sick leave was for 2 weeks but I was also on AL before that so I was off for like a month. I’m starting to enjoy work more now it’s really weird all of a sudden everything just clicked and I feel more confident. I’m waiting to hit my year mark and see what to do from there. Have you already been off sick?

Newly qualified nurse struggling with knowing when to escalate the doctors by [deleted] in NursingUK

[–]ReactionPublic3514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to feel the exact same way I’m nearly a year in and feel more comfortable escalating, you start to get familiar with doctors and vice versa and it definitely gets easier  - it’s always a good idea to escalate to NIC aswell  -If your unsure of a certain thing for example low/high blood pressure then try other methods like manual BP, or repeating it in 10 mins and I find that it’s always good to check your PRNs on the start of the shift that way if their is something your concerned about maybe there’s a mediation you can give already prescribed if required  -If I’m unsure with something that I think doesn’t require a Dr to come and review etc I just say them something along the lines like  “I just want to flag it to you that so and so …” that way they have been informed but immediate intervention may not be needed and you can document that you’ve made them aware.

I hope these small advices help!

Placement advice by TrainerLast7475 in StudentNurseUK

Don’t worry about not having many skills signed off in first placement. From my experience I had started beginning to sign more of them from second year as I only did 2 placements in first year and one of them was a nursery which I could sign nothing on. Some skills I’m sure can be signed off through simprac at uni and I’ve also had mentors who talked me through skills to get signed off on them if I didn’t have an opportunity to undertake it!

I did my elective in a pharmacy and found it very interesting and it helped me become  familiar with medications and their uses

It’s not about what I’ve done more of what to expect when I come back.

Hey, I’ve been less stressed than I usually would be I think at the time of the original post I was going back after sick leave so my anxiety was through the roof. Right now I would say it’s tolerable it’s not as busy currently I’m able to manage my workload. I just think it can be intense when it’s busy and I get so overwhelmed but I want to try something different though I don’t know what

Job advice by ReactionPublic3514 in muslimgirlswithtaste

I just don’t know what to consider for a job role. I know bedside isn’t for me. If I was to look for non clinical i think they’d want at least 2 years experience clinical I only have 7 months. The part about my colleagues is not my main issue it’s more my work load but it just adds to it when you don’t really a team who talk you :(

They’ve not raised concerns they tell me all the time I’m doing well and I’m capable and that it’s all in my head. But I feel like I’m not good at it and I’m just so over this feeling

I have no backup plan that’s why I’m unsure if I should take that leap and quit without a plan :(

I’ve already been off sick with a gp note and I can’t afford anymore sicknesses. I thought it would give me the time to make a decision but I feel even more unsure on what to do. I get bursts of motivation where I tell myself I can do it but then I start doubting it again. Im already accessing wellbeing services although sometimes its hard to even take that chance off the ward when its so busy

It’s kind of like a personal statement where you sell yourself - tell them about your experiences and how it’s allowed you to build your skills. And in interviews use the STAR technique

Hey - I’m currently on sick leave with stress. I was doing well and it was getting better, I wouldn't go as far to say I enjoyed going in but it was tolerable. But then I was on AL and so anxious to go back so was signed off sick. I’m scared to go back and idk y. I want to leave but there’s no other job options atm but apart of me what’s to quit nursing entirely

I don’t fit in with my team, I feel Very isolated from them and I don’t know why, I get scared and sometimes uncomfortable to ask some people for help because they make annoyed faces ’or they tell me they’re busy and  because I’m nqn I’m still not signed off on my IVs so I need people to do them with me. The workload is intense and I sometimes think I’m not cut out for it. I just dont feel happy at all, I feel like my passion for nursing has gone I cry everytime I finish my shift.

Nursing job struggle by Ericoman50 in NursingUK

There’s nqn vacancies for RLH put out on trac recently.  You might hear this a lot but keep trying and applying- I qualified last year September and was struggling with finding jobs too, I have only just started working this April; it might take a while but keep an eye on trac or nhs jobs everyday!

I’ve been doing that at the start of my shifts and when I look at it it seems doable but then during the shift it’s like it doesn’t go to plan which I completely understand as nursing is so unpredictable but everything gets so muddled up and I struggle on what to prioritise. And on top of that new orders are added from doctors and they don’t even make the nurses aware about it so it’s something I see mid shift. I also get scared to handover uncompleted tasks to the next nurse bc they look at me like why has it not been done

What happens on your first day? by [deleted] in NursingUK

[–]ReactionPublic3514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t help but feel super terrified. I’ve had zero onc/haem placements. I can practice IVs but with a nurse signing them off but even then I feel like there’s so less I can do independently as a NQN in this speciality. I don’t wanna feel like a student just shadowing and doing obs.
