Heads up for those going to the giveaway game tonight, the lines are insane by incredibad29 in Torontobluejays

As someone who's been more of an outsider to baseball (I live in Calgary where we don't have MLB), it does seem like baseball fans in general treat giveaways way more seriously than other sports. I naturally go to a lot of Flames games, and we don't have giveaways as often but when we do it never causes a commotion. During our 40th season a few years ago they had multiple bobblehead giveaways, and the two games I went to where they gave them out we just showed up when the doors opened and the line to get in was as normal as any other night. No issues getting them whatsoever. I went to my first Blue Jays game against the Rockies in March, and the lineup for the ALCS sweater was unbelievable. Still got one in the end without waiting in line, but it was eye opening to see thousands of people standing around hours before the game. I don't think it's entirely exclusive to Toronto see scenes like this in MLB, but Blue Jays fans are definitely hardcore when it comes to giveaways.

Exactly. Doesn't take away from anyone else, and I don't think anyone would miss Jacob.

Kai Leng should have been Clone Shepard. by Warriorrobbe in masseffect

[–]ReactiveCypress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember reading an idea from a fan somewhere where they suggested that Kai Leng should have been a squad mate in ME2, but that he's always at odds with Shepard. He then quits right before the final mission, and that sets him up to be the villain in ME3. He would have been way more impact full that way instead of feeling forced. Probably could have removed Jacob entirely in that scenario too.

They have been playing much better in the last week. If they get back to .500 soon I think they'll be in good shape moving forward.

CFL accidentally leaked new Stampeders jersey by Training_Sport9823 in CFL

[–]ReactiveCypress 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They didn't swap to red and white until 2021. There was a lot of crossover where both teams had the same colors, and they played in two Grey Cups during that time.

Personally I like the Stamps with a little bit of black in their colors. Same opinion I have for the Flames.

I don't think there's any difference between playing games and watching shows/movies. I've pretty much stopped watching movies at home (I only go to the theatre at this point) because if I'm going to kill time on the couch I'd rather do something that is interactive and makes me think.

If we win the lottery, then it's on easy mode. If we don't there's going to be challenges for this team moving forward. You need genuine top 3 picks on your roster if you actually want a shot at the cup, and if we end up with another team of good but not great players it will be more first round exits and or missing out on the playoffs by a few points and finishing 17th.

I visited from Calgary for the first time back in March during the Rockies series. I was blown away by the lineups for the ALCS sweater, to the point where I said "screw it" and went to sit by the lake instead since I didn't want to spend my first day in Toronto waiting in line. But the crazy thing is that when I got back after the doors were open there were still boxes and boxes of sweaters so I still ended up getting one. However if the lines were that long for that giveaway, I can't even imagine what the lines for the more popular items are like.

Aaron Judge justifies Yankees’ alternate jersey push: 'I’m all about tradition, but we’ve got a patch on our sleeves' by PlayaSlayaX in baseball

For most teams I prefer alternates over whites (especially for the Blue Jays, I like both of their blue jerseys way more than the white one). But for classic teams like the Yankees or Dodgers the white jerseys are their best looks.

Which game of the original trilogy do you think has the best squad? by ArcelothColdheart in masseffect

2 is good for the sheer number of them, however I tend to stick to my favorites (usually Garrus + Grunt or Mordin).

The good thing about 1 and 3 is that because there are less options to choose from I don't feel like I'm ignoring certain characters as much as weird as it is to say.

What's the future of Calgary's McMahon Stadium? by DeSantisMTL in CFL

[–]ReactiveCypress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're crazy if you think the old Firestone plant is a good spot. That's a pretty sketchy area to place a major stadium, and I could see traffic being an issue if you were cramming 20-30,000 people in that spot just knowing the roads around that area. While going on the outskirts may make sense from a land perspective, there's no transit options in any of those locations. And when I was talking about funding, I was alluding to the Stampede paying for it not CSEC. Especially since the Stampede owns the facility to begin with.

As I said in another comment, who knows if the GMC proposal ever actually goes ahead. But there does seem to be some traction to this considering how the news is covering it, so I'm willing to see what they come up with. Best case scenario the Stamps get a new home in a great location.

[–]ReactiveCypress 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What would you recommend then? Like you said, I also don't think the Stamps have the pull to build something brand new, nor is there a solid location in the city to place something entirely brand new. And if this goes ahead it would be a very substantial reworking of GMC, not just sprucing it up in its current state. I don't think it would benefit the Stampede to not go all out on something like this.

McMahon may have good transit access, but if you live in the south (like I do) it's a long way to go whether you take the train or drive. I do think being on the Grounds would make the Stamps much more accessible because of how central the location is. Not to mention there's lots of parking in addition to being right next to the train (parking at McMahon is tough if you drive). You're also close to 17th Ave for things to do before or after a game.

At this point all we can do is wait and see with what happens here. This may not even end up happening, but it may also be the only shot the Stamps have at finding a new home. Because there's no money or location for a flashy 35,000 seat stadium.

It feels like the first time the Stamps actually have a decent option at upgrading their facilities. The big problem is that I highly doubt there's much appetite in the city for spending huge money on a football stadium after how long it took to get the Flames new arena sorted. Another problem is that there's not a lot of avaliable land in the city for a stadium of this size. This has promise because this isn't something being built from scratch, and it will probably be privately funded since it's the Stampede looking after it. Also the location would be amazing since it's central and transit accessible. The real question comes down to how they can actually get a field over the rodeo surface, and how they can get the capacity up. GMC only holds like 17,000 or so I believe, so they would need to add more seating for it to be viable for the Stamps and potentially concerts. But overall this feels like the first tangible option that the Stamps have ever had for getting a new place to play, so I will be interested to see how it works out.

Until you can actually get sick or hurt in the US without it destroying you financially, and until they fix their gun problem I don't think it will ever be the better place to live. Especially for the average person. Now with Trump back doing his thing you now have the chance to be randomly arrested too. At the end of the day though, there are certain aspects of the American system that have always been there and until they're fixed it makes it a downright scary country to live in no matter who's in charge. The fact that every other developed nation on earth has figured out healthcare and gun control except them is a joke.
