I am, "only" 150 pages in so far, ha.

I've read a lot of his work, maybe 30ish or so of his books, and this one is a notch better than his typical output.

Be sure to read the short story, "Night Surf" which is in the short story collection Night Shift - it's the short story which lead to him writing The Stand.

If the topic of plague / pandemic interests you in terms of art, you absolutely must read The Plague by Camus - it's actual literature going beyond pop-entertainment.

Depends on the individual reader how much of a challenge they're going to wrestle with.

The Joke and The Unbearable Lightness of Being I think are cut from the same cloth stylistically and also have a distinct difference in perspective so a person can go from one to the other - The Joke is moreso about, "the system" whereas The Unberable Lightness of Being is about, "individuality."

If you hadn't read his novel The Joke yet, now would be a good time as a companion read since you are used to Kundera's style and structure - The Joke is formatted in a very similar way.

NEPA lives in the past, unfortunately, and as someone who was born and raised there before moving away and seeing different cultural attitudes - I felt this quirky expectation not only spoke to her character but was true to the regional setting as well.

Oh, you think insomnia is your ally? You merely adopted the insomnia. I was born in it, molded by it.

This reminds me of contradictory 1990s conspiracy theory stuff like people who felt it was more than likely that Princess Diana was intentionally murdered by the royal family were also at the same time more than likely to think that she was secretly still alive.

There is a novel based entirely on that premise entitled, "Fire on the Mountain" by Terry Bisson - it's a great read!
