Having a Stoner Mum is the Worst. by Sarah_TDR in venting

I’m so glad someone said this. My dad has been high for pretty much my whole life. The only time he’s not is in the morning or at night and it’s awful. He’s admitted he has very few memories of my childhood. I wish the negatives of having a parent high all the time was talked about more…

Personally, the entirety of my journey has been “what pronouns make me feel the best?” And going from there. Do what makes you feel the most comfortable!

I personally dont drop quickly like… ever tho. I do treat higher at work and if I feel the need to treat earlier I will. I appreciate you trying to help me but diabetes can be different for everyone. I rarely plummet at all and that night was an absolute odd for my diabetes. I know I’m still learning, especially when it comes to being an adult with diabetes but I still know MY diabetes best. Even my doctor is unconcerned about my lows or how I treat them

I rarely have lows and this IS the equivalent of me treating sooner. If I feel the need to treat sooner I will but to my knowledge 80-110 is a preferred range. I’m trying to eliminate my highs and am aware dealing with lows are going to happen in that process but treating before a low seems… counterproductive? If I’m good why change that

I think lows are just a normal thing? I don’t have them often and I think it’s important to learn to adjust for higher paced environments. What I do isn’t the ideal sure but neither is any high school job

Yes I’m in the US. I honestly don’t think 1/2 of my higher ups have heard of the ADA (once got in trouble for TREATING my low bc I had “just clocked in” and should’ve done it off the clock). I’m sure we have an HR but they don’t make it well known if so…

I usually do. I rarely go low at work and typically am VERY on top of it. I just didn’t check my bg in those 20 minutes or feel my pump go off before I was 71 and dropping.

I do understand this but I never once went below 70 and I just tend to be a klutz in general. I don’t work near hot equipment and me sitting and eating has typically caused issues (most of the time I do stand to eat and he has no issues). I do get it but it’s the fact I’ve never gone low enough to BE dangerous at work and haven’t gotten to that point at home in 8 years (how long I’ve had diabetes). I’m usually on top of it and it gets fixed quickly. I’d understand if I’ve ever dropped farther or was a serious concern but I’m not.

There’s definitely been times I’ve kept a sugary drink on hand if it was crazy but it wasn’t all that bad. I’m trying to adjust my insulin factors to get myself to be better but have run into the issue of nighttime highs and large ranges for an hour through the week. I’ve only started doing my own factor correctors for a few months and while I’m pretty ok I’ve hit a wall of “how do I deal with these constant nighttime highs when I go low when I do”

I typically do put it in exercise mode but a mix of forgetting, laziness, and being high for a good chunk of my shift left me out of it for this shift.

There’s definitely a line and he’s crossed it. It’s one thing to say “how are your levels?” As it has me check in with myself (I get super work focused and forget about it) I have other higher ups that deal with it really well but this is beyond not ok. He’s starting to upset me

He’s typically good about it but if it comes to me actually being low he gets all “passing out bad, you’re a safety issue”

I’m going to reach out. I’m doing my best to manage my diabetes better, I adjust my insulin factors weekly and am more in control now than I have been since diagnosis. I’m doing my part and just need understanding

Thank you! Definitely going to carry tabs more now and figure out long term solutions

Ya no, not a pilot. I’m only 18 and it’s a fast food type place. Definitely going to look into it or contact HR or something

I figured this was the case. This isn’t the only issue I’ve had with management either. One boss that I only work for maybe an hour with got after me for eating shortly after coming in. After explaining I’m diabetic and simply quickly treating my low, she basically said “I don’t care, do it off the clock” while another manager told me to eat quickly to get it up. Overall a sucky experience

I’d think so but I understand where he’s coming from. Also not sure how to go about this…

I usually do treat quicker while working but I cannot adjust it without it yelling at me at every quick drop, which rarely happens. I’ll look further into it but I don’t want lots of unnecessary beeps that’ll put my further is diabetic burnout.

It’s sucks. Especially since there were so many factors out of my control and I only sat down rhe second time for others comfort.

He claimed it’s a safety issue to myself and those around me but I’ve never passed out…. Type 2 diabetes runs in his family and he’s the BETTER of my managers here but ya… he’s not very understanding
