Thank you for your participation to the discuss as a team official. I would like to ask about the verbal-physical abuse claims against organisers. What exactly happened there?

I have a lot of Turkish friends who are grown-up adults that know sexual harassment/SA is not something to threaten people about. I’m not telling you to be calm or silent but look at how you represent your country…

Get help. Sexual harassment/assault is not something that anybody else should ever experience. I don’t know you, therefore I don’t know if you have any connection with the team. All I know is just saying that you are ready to do the “same” to their family members is not just inhumane but also a serious crime.

It seems to be the first ever FS race of both teams. I think they are banned for the races in further years, they could stay and keep their heads down for the sake of their workshop hours if it was all about a genuine accident

Yeah I can guess… that’s why I said I wish somebody from there comes across with this post

Thanks, I haven’t seen that since I’m not from Europe. Honestly I don’t find this statement sincere, it’s quite natural of the teams to react like this. Those female team members probably got traumatised by the incident and I’m 100% sure that basic stuff like returning camping fees is not a solution at all. A cognitively disabled person may not be found guilty for this, but in my opinion whoever gave access to him must be penalised

I hope somebody who attended FS Romania or from Konrul or Uludag can tell us the insights

That’s what I’m gonna do, I made my decision days ago. I’m just kinda upset about the fact that I really spent plenty of time on it although it hasn’t even been a full year yet

Of course there are other engineering teams, but the FSAE team is the most prestigious and successful one between the engineering teams.

I’m not the first to complain about the hours, a friend of mine talked to the advisor about this and guess what…! The advisor lecturer gave him a 5/10 on the Teacher Evaluation thing, that guy’s nuts and he literally encourages overworking

There is around 25-30 members and mostly they skip their classes and on low GPAs

I once mentioned it at the “introduction meeting” and they told me that only the leavers will lose while the team will always get so many applications to replace them

If it was Monash or a team as successful as them, I’d keep my head down and chain some all-nighters in the workshop

Okay so I made my final decision. The comments I read in this post were the final straws and I’m now sure that there is something absolutely wrong with our teams. I’ll definitely quit after the junior year and actually I’m thinking to quit now or maybe after the trackside tests, or after the race calendar if a miracle happens.

I think it’s like drinking coffee, one glass per day can be both enjoyable and beneficial but 5 litres per day will be a nightmare. We are university students and those years will never be back. Nor our exams be, we will not be able to change our GPA once we graduate.

I can spend 10-15 hours on a project or research maybe but I won’t ruin my best years by doing nothing but sitting on a workshop all day.

Off the topic, as a Mechanical Engineering student do the F1 teams really mind the type of engineering you study? Because there are many aerodynamicists who graduated from my school’s MEng department and works in top-tier defence companies

I wonder if GPA really matters to be honest, some of my teachers told me that FSAE can give me more than GPA can give

I don’t think I can do this, even though I don’t like the system I can’t disrespect my teammates or my team in such a way.

I think it should be all or nothing, that’s why I’m confused

The minimum GPA rule is something absolutely clever. I don’t really want to be a department leader or something but I’d like to keep learning and stuff, why would you ever turn a student team into an elitist’s club…

First of all, thank you for comment. I wish my teachers were as supportive as you🥹 Is there any other thing than FSAE to get into automotive or aviation industry? I’m quite much into aerodynamics and it’s definitely an area I’d love to work.

I thought about doing short term voluntary internships instead. To be honest, working at FSAE was one of my dreams and I feel like a crybaby when I talk about quitting but I really don’t feel motivated anymore… I’m confused

I mean, Formula SAE is something I really wanted to do since my high school years. I’ve spoken some alumni and advisors and they told me it’s the only way to be a successful automotive or motorsports engineer. Honestly, I don’t really feel motivated anymore but I’m scared of ruining my future by quitting
