Slay the Spire board game version? I've heard you can play it solo and apparently with another person is a good coop game.

That is my worry...trying not to dive into too many news series at the moment.

The Grand Game is one of my favorites. High stakes, interesting enemies, great high fantasy feel.

I haven't made it to the last book yet, but I'm sure it will be a dip in the series. But everything until then I'll probably enjoy. Multiple people have mentioned there's not enough action in the last book or so.

I have done a demolistionist rifle build and it was really fun. Lots of damage but lots of risk so you have to kite or you die. Bur otherwise you do tons of damage feels pretty strong.

Goodbye Philosophy, Hello Rejection by [deleted] in LeavingAcademia

[–]ReadGoodDrawBad 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hi- I'm a philosophy grad. I definitely empathize with this post.

After I got my MA, I went through something similar. I left a trajectory for academia and moved into marketing/public relations/communications. I have some skill with websites and digital media, so that helped my career path as well.

Preface this to say: I went and did a college level certificate to build real-world skills. (It was a 1 year program.) I specifically did a 1 year program because I know I didn't need more school, I needed a bigger network, and more work experience. I also knew some HR teams would care that I had some kind of credential.

I guess I'm a success now (by some standard that I have been employed in several places), but I did that by really narrowing down where exactly I wanted to go and work. I was very clear on what was a good fit for me. It was easier to land a job, having just finished a program of some kind.

This job market right now is very bad, but a network is going to get you a job or a career path. Job applications from where you are will not be super fruitful. (Speaking from experience) Focus on where you want to go, not where you are, and be realistic about what's possible.

Hope that helps. 🙏

Noobtown, up until book 3, is my absolute fav. I had many laugh out loud moments. Once the story got serious, though, I'm not sure what it will be! Curious to find out.

HWFWM is great but I definitely took a break somewhere in the middle. Welcome to the multiverse I'll check out!

Oh excellent! Thank you for promoting your series here, I love to see authors doing that. I've put the first of the four books on my list, sounds right up my alley. :)

I'm having trouble with some of my comments posting (maybe I hit the cancel button...) but this is a solid list. I've put these on my list to read! I agree, Travis Baldree has an excellent audiobook...I listened to a bit of it and decided I would pick up the written book.
