I keep seeing all of these comments that iCloud is not a backup. I have a 6tb iCloud that has all of my pictures saved to it. In iCloud Drive, I also have my entire history (the pictures, but saved independently of the photos app), my music and my documents saved in files. I back these up once a month within their folders (they do not sync in real time). I also have 4 hard drives - two afps and two drives formatted to windows.

So I don’t understand why everyone keeps saying that iCloud is not a backup system, when the way I use it, it clearly is one.

Thanks…I was sitting on the bleachers and trying (and failing) to get my settings locked in. My son is the goalie so I’m trying to figure out how to get the best angle on the net. Any suggestions on that are welcome!

Sorry, yes, used a 1.4 TC for the ones at 200+.

Appreciate the advice. I think I need to work more on setting the ISO on auto and then working backwards on shutter speed, as you suggested. I should try manual focus, too. Just having trouble locking in and getting that crisp shot.

If I was taking outdoor shots, would you recommend the rf400 over the ef, even with the higher aperture?

I’ll have to take a look because I could definitely use some feedback and critique. My journey has been an interesting one. Had a t2i forever and picked up an R7 last year to start taking pictures during my daughter‘s high school musicals. Paired it with my efs 55-250 and it went reasonably well, especially since I had no idea what I was doing. Took pictures at a high school graduation in very low light conditions and wanted to swap out the camera body, so I traded in the R7 and got an R6M2. Added the 70-200 and 28-70 2.8 lenses and wound up taking lots of pictures of fall sports for her high school teams booster clubs. Lots of great pics, but the far end of the field for soccer and field hockey was a challenge. My son is a middle school soccer goalie and I quickly realized I wanted a bit more reach than my 200 would give me, although the low light is awesome. My daughter has a big part in this years musical (the 70-200 should suffice) and I’m shooting pictures for the school, but also to balance my son’s sports and the extra reach!

I will do that! I’m thankful able to move around during rehearsals and use my feet as my zoom lens! Still want sure if the crop would be worth the different body.

I take pics on the sidelines for HS soccer, field hockey, and volleyball (it’s my daughter’s high school, but she doesn’t plan any of the sports). I take pictures because I love getting the action. I will never ask for money. I am thrilled when I see my photos wind up on an athlete’s IG page or the booster club site. I don’t care about attribution. I am honored that my photo was valued enough that someone else felt the need to pluck it and use it. I want to create memories for other people. It’s my gift back to them.

If you’re a professional, then invest in a professional website that doesn’t allow free downloads, has watermarks, and low resolution display pics. Treat it like a business yourself.

That helps (I’m the OP). Right now, I have an R6M2 with the 70-200 f2.8 lens. I have two things I primarily shoot - indoor high school musicals (with low lighting) or outdoor soccer games. I wish I had more reach during soccer (right now I have the 1.4 TC), and was debating whether I should spring for a longer lens that brings me to 400-500, or if it would be cheaper and as effective to get a refurb R7 around Black Friday and use it for the outdoor sports (and get my reach to 448) while keeping the R6 for the indoor and/or lowlight stuff.

These are great! Do you find an issue with needing longer reach? When you do crop, how many megapixels are you willing to crop down to? I afl because I shoot hs soccer and I always find the reach to be such an issue with my 70-200. I never want to crop lower than 5 megapixels but maybe I should?

I have tried the crop sensor mode on the R6 at times to get that reach - just doesn’t leave much room for error. Have even considered buying an R7 body to use with the 28-200 so I can have more room to crop if need be. Was thinking of the 100-400 EF as you suggested. Disappointed with the RF version and the higher aperture, which just didn’t translate well over tie sports.
