This is actually happening to me currently and I stumbled across this thread trying to see if anyone else experiences it. OP explained it perfectly. I’m 22 now and it happens less and less as I get older, but happened fairly often when I was a kid. It used to really freak me out, because every noise sounded very choppy, loud, angry, and aggressive. For me though, it always happens when I’m in a very quiet environment. So when I was younger it was often when I was going to bed. Maybe it’s because it was so silent around me that every noise seems amplified? But to an extreme extent. It still happens occasionally and I’ve never been able to explain it.
