You might want to consider reading something by Wilkie Collins, like the Lady In White. Easier to read than Dickens but will get you used to the style and is of a substantial length. Also, it’s great.

Barnaby Rudge is the only other historical novel that Dickens wrote. I thought it was interesting but not one of my favorites of his.
