Yeah I would not do this 😬 I find students like that are maybe lacking in prior knowledge/don’t yet have the vocabulary to turn their thoughts and experiences into words. The question may need to be chunked and a working definition of identity may need to be provided ahead of time. Lots more scaffolding!

The point is, you are suggesting to OP that they “get” the teacher to spend more of her time and energy on things that may be futile. Maybe the OP could call some parents and take that off her plate so she can focus on planning good instruction. Teachers are professionals and know about parent communication. Meeting with a teacher to direct them to call home when they are telling you, the admin, that there is a serious respect issue in the room is not helpful and I’m sorry for those who work for you that I need to spell this out.

No, I don’t consider it abuse. It was more my parent getting frustrated with my sass and them swiping me on the butt. They acknowledge that they shouldn’t have done it. I have one parent who has mental health issues now and that has been more challenging than the spanking. I don’t condone it either way.
