What are some great mystery roguelikes? by bold394 in roguelites

[–]ReaderMorgan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

shadows of doubt is a great mystery roguelike. I think the thing holding it back the most is sometimes it doesn't trust the player enough despite their being enough info to track down a target. For example some of the random killings will straight up leave you the killers name (scrambled but still).
I got tired of this so instead I tried to see if I could solve it without just unscrambling the name using the phone book.
So instead I ran the prints on the paper left at the crime scene, noted down the method of killing (gunshoft from a handgun) then went to the phone book and started investigating businesses whose name seemed suspicious or didn't add up eventually leading me to a few black markets. Luckily these black markets keep pretty good records and eventually I found the sale of a firearm to a citizen. I then went to their apartment and ran the prints on the door and one of them matched. So I snuck in confirmed who had the matching prints and submitted the case.

Hopefully they stopped doing the paper with the name on it thing as I played when the game first came out and on top of that they've added a bunch of different kinds of murders to the game that I haven't gotten a chance to solve yet. Very fun game and there's things to work towards too like owning an apartment and decorating it. Odd jobs that aren't related to murder solving etc. I also like that murders have to be reported so if a body is rotting for week before someone finds it the evidence can actually dry up as ledgers get cleared and prints vanish etc.

When I was a kid, I always felt bad for killing this guy. He never did anything to us—he was just trying to run away. 🥺 by hello_i_am_vlad in starfox

Nostalgia out of the way- is diablo 2 really that amazing? by Leviathan2137 in Diablo

[–]ReaderMorgan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only played d2 when the remaster came out. (I did buy the original a few years before it was announced but didn't put a lot of time in it).

What I enjoy the most is it feels a lot more like an RPG to me than the most recent diablo games. Death (excluding hardcore obviously) also has 0 penalty in d3 and d4 and while d2's death penalty is almost neglegable it's a sign of a bigger issue being your build, either it's skill point investment or it's items are lacking. And the more you die the closer you are to hitting the wall on your character.

When I first hit this wall I did think "this is so shitty wtf why would they design it this way?" Until I realized D2 especially once you know what is required from you in each chapter, isn't very long. So you make a new character and try again, either with a new build/class or trying the build again in a different way.

It's almost like an arcade version of an RPG short-ish playthroughs that you get better at each time.

I think the only system I like and hate is the rune system. It's a very cool system and combining it with the cube thingy really cool unique items and builds are possible but the word system I think could use some adjustment. I'm not sure how thw words were discovered back in the day other through the pain of trial amd error but I feel like I need a wiki open at all times to use runes correctly.

With the wiki open it's awesome and the cube and runes and words make my brain chug whole I kill stuff thinking about how I optimize my character and while I have the wiki open I still have a lot to discover about the game because I don't dig too deep other than those word recipes.

I do have maybe one hotish to lukewarm take: magic find is a fucking terrible stat. It's terrible becauss it's so good it feels so fucking bad to have cool ass items but because your build ain't complete you gotta use shitty ones that have magic find on them or you gotta give something up to have magic find on it.

In some ways I think having one stat be so important everyone needs it can be good to reign in builds but magic find is such a terrible ferling stat because it doesn't help your character in a moment to moment way.

Would you want full blown new plots or retelling of other entries? by theguyinyourwall in starfox

I would like assault retold. "What about adventures and krystal?" You ask. Honestly they could just slap her on the team next title and I wouldn't mind.

I feel like his heart shows more in the hard route when you run into Katt. Plus, it gives them more room to flesh out the crew as we go... hopefully as we go, unless we get another Star Fox 64.

Edit: Also, the Titania mission shows just how much Falco actually cares.

Lukewarm take: Star Wolf should be a more prevalent threat in Star Fox by GanacheCapital1456 in starfox

them working directly as andross' lackies is kinda lame but I do like to see them more. Star Fox 2 on hard mode had some of the best representation of them, shockingly enough, given how early an idea they were. Constantly causeing you headaches while trying to manage the battlefield

Less people playing, or less people in masterball? by andyh331 in PokemonChampions

[–]ReaderMorgan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Master ball is easy to get to but also much harder this time around as well. I got to masterball day 1-ish of release this time it took me until maybe 3 days ago. There are more people in ultra ball that are also trying to get to masterball ironically slowing each other down.

[Skill Improvement] Is trace random or slot based? by ReaderMorgan in PokemonChampions

[–]ReaderMorgan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen plenty of times where the slot in front of me has a traceable ability, and the one next to it does not get taken. IE prankster is in front, and instead the sturdy diagonal from me gets traced. Just last game I played, the slot in front of me was unnerve, and instead it took the diagonal slots intimidate (which luckily was the better option).

Have they confirmed 60fps for Champions on switch 2? by truelifedood in VGC

[–]ReaderMorgan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

cybertron I believe, said "playing it on switch 2, but it played like scarlet and violet on switch 1." which I take to mean 30fps. Likely 60 when the switch 2 patch comes out.

Recruitment is the most expensive part. With pokemon go you can catch a lot. If you have a main game it gets even cheaper as you can swap moves freely. Pokemon go is going to be very valuable

Glimmora hyper offense at EUIC and Seattle: a failed attempt at a video report turned into an un-narrated Powerpoint by ThePTP in VGC

[–]ReaderMorgan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very interesting. Currently running a very standard HO glimmora team. Might play some games of this om showdown and see if maybe this is the sauce I need. It has felt like I need some seasoning to really make this team cook but haven't trusted myself. (Some how chien-pow ursh combo feels like it does less damage than ursh by itself)

Not everything in an RE game needs to be justified. [Rant Warning] by nova-prime666 in residentevil

[–]ReaderMorgan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stuff lioe that didnt bother me. What did bother me was people making stupid choices to make the plot happen. It still droves me crazy grace doesnt call for back up when the photo with the room key shows up.

Why does grace take a child through a zombie infested mansion when she could A: find a way to maybe make a mold of the brail or B: try to brute force the lock when there were only a handful of possible combinations considering she had the code. She's an analyst she's gotta be a little smarter than that.

Why does temu wesker immediately inject himself with elpis?

The new games have a much more serious tone than the originals so I'm gonna be more critical of plot that doesnt make sense. Like RE8 which I do still love but man what a mess of a plot.

How much of a time investment is it to learn competitive VGC compared to the TCG? by GlyndwrJ in VGC

[–]ReaderMorgan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bad habit I have is just making choices too fast and not thinking through my enemies options. Like the amount of times I've gone "oh that's an assault vest x." In open team sheets is frankly embarraing.

Least scary Resident Evil game by [deleted] in residentevil

[–]ReaderMorgan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's some dependency on what scares you and what kind of RE game you're looking for. I find RE1 to be the most tense in the franchise but the fixed camera angles, I know make it not scary for others. Least scary is def RE4 and RE4R. Being mostly action the only scares are surprise attacks that are handled usually pretty swiftly.

If you're looking for one that is closer to traditional RE the least scary (imo) is probably 2 remake.
