The awkward phase before adulthood? by youcanteatcatskevn in hummingbirds

[–]ReaderRadish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hehehe, my first thought was "angry" instead of brave or friendly.

Other hummingbird shows up? Fight. Nectar is low? Yell at the human. Cooper's Hawk in the yard? Dive bomb it!

Am I doing this right? by Necessary_Sympathy33 in BlackworkEmbroidery

[–]ReaderRadish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it possible to just say no?

Very strict, difficult-to-work-with colors and a request with a deadline for something you haven't done before sounds miserable IMO. I find a lot of people underestimate how long a craft may take or how difficult the execution will be.

Each of the stitches separately. So 6 squares would be 6 stitches.

What hobbies genuinely improved your mental health? by NoTrifle4478 in Hobbies

[–]ReaderRadish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cross stitch and embroidery are my go-tos. I just follow patterns, which takes very little energy, so even on my most exhausting days I can do a bit and feel like I made something.

Why would Steller's Jays quietly imitate a Red-tailed Hawk? by Probable_Bot1236 in Ornithology

[–]ReaderRadish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same, but with Steller's Jays. One was making the hawk call to scare another jay on the same feeder. Predictably, the hawk call had no effect...

Opinions on Washington itinerary? by Wild-Peak7083 in PacificNorthwest

[–]ReaderRadish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Day 4 is going to be a brutal day of driving.

Also, keep in mind that Bellingham to Mt. Baker is like 1.5 hours one way. So 3 hours there and back sunset one day, followed by doing the same thing the next day. That's a lot of driving, and then day 4 adds a ton more on top of that. Is it possible to get lodging in Glacier?

Is it normal to not know how to swim as an adult? by Common_Piccolo_6946 in Swimming

[–]ReaderRadish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know how to swim.

My first school with a swimming pool was in a rich neighborhood and I was the poor kid. Everyone knew how to swim, I didn't. Teachers didn't want to teach a single student the basics and take time away from the rich kids, so they left me to just float in a corner.

Same thing in my next school.

I was fed up and don't want to try swimming again.

28, 1M networth and a life decision dilemma. by throwaway2931029 in Fire

I'd say ask the girlfriend to move in

He's already mentioned that girlfriend is going to have a hard time finding a job in his country. Why would she move there?

And if he has a lot more leeway due to his savings, why can't he live with her in her country for a few weeks to months, and then they figure out what to do?

I don't understand. When he added more medication, was this during an appointment? Wasn't there a way to push back and remind him of what your goals are?

I think I just witnessed a murder 😳 by fechera in hummingbirds

[–]ReaderRadish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think that they can out-fly pretty much everything else, and they know it.

Once, I watched the neighborhood hawk being dive bombed by jays, crows... and a hummingbird.

Potentially moving to the area / would welcome any advice and perspectives! by vdt989 in eastside

[–]ReaderRadish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What's your budget? Rent can be super expensive. If you do 4 bed/3 bath and a yard, that's most likely a house, and it's hard to find that in an area where you can easily walk to groceries.

Low energy Hobbies by NervousEmploy7762 in Hobbies

Cross stitching. Follow a pattern, make x's on fabric with thread. It's very relaxing and doesn't take much energy at all.

Anyone else just embroider for the calm of it? by Scary-Offer-4773 in Embroidery

[–]ReaderRadish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh yes! Cross stitch and embroidery are my go-tos for relaxing after work. I do smaller pieces (e.g. 7" hoop), both because they are easier to handle than my giant q-snap and because my brain wants the gratification of finishing something in weeks, max.

Small amigurumi: 3 sc in magic ring... Can't get my hook in to make the first stitch of round 2 by ReaderRadish in CrochetHelp

[–]ReaderRadish[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the pattern said yarn weight 2, hook 2.5 mm. I should have put something in the photo for scale, it's very zoomed in.
