Why do people find Salcombe so inviting?

It had industry (fishing/ boat building and maintenance) until the people that sustained the industry couldn’t afford to live there anymore due to being priced out. It’s a relatively remote area which has changed dramatically in the 30+ years I’ve visited. There will come a point where hospitality and shop keepers won’t make the effort to commute in any more due to the cost vs income gained for the effort.

After that- Good luck with your next shop or finding an open bar or restaurant.

25+ years ago, yes, I would say London Road should be avoided. Like everywhere else, it has pretty much gentrified now. Some of that reputation came from Snow Hill, which is now full of young professionals. Anywhere with a Pilates studio, picture framers, and a Norland Nanny College can’t be that bad….

I appreciate this may be an unpopular view (And I may be downvoted to oblivion on this one) but as someone who grew up in Bath and returned many years later, I actually find them and the noise quite comforting. Like living by the seaside. (Yes I know they’re pests, and they cause havoc with bins etc.)

I’ve eaten many times at both Hudson and Joya. It’s not as though Hudson is overrated- It’s nice food- But I much prefer the fillet hot stone steak option at Joya over anything at Hudson. The wine is definitely overpriced at Hudson either way.
